Repairs this series usually needs

  1. Warm cabinet
  2. LLL or HHH on the thermometer
  3. Blank display
  4. Dirty condenser
  5. Gasket wear

The MCL 1-, 2- and 4- series are McCall reach-in refrigerators, with plate numbers such as 1-1020, 1-102001E and 2-2020. They come in one, two or three sections, narrow or wide body, including a 7000 series.

Most use a mechanical knob control with an optional digital thermometer. A blank or wrong thermometer display can come from a fuse, the main switch or a loose probe wire, and LLL or HHH means the module needs calibration. We check the condenser and gaskets as well, since a warm cabinet usually has one of those behind it.

Read us the number on the plate, and tell us whether your cabinet has a knob or a display. Because the control is a knob, we also check that it turns smoothly and that the set mark still matches the cabinet’s actual temperature.

FAQMcCall MCL 1-, 2- and 4- Series Reach-In Refrigerators questions
Why is my display blank?

A fuse, the main switch or a disconnected probe wire can blank it. We check each in turn, and we use a separate thermometer to see the real cabinet temperature.

What does LLL mean?

The display module needs calibration. The cabinet may be cooling fine while the display misleads you, so check food with another thermometer. Place a second thermometer on the middle shelf.

Does my cabinet use a knob?

Most of the MCL reach-ins do. The digital thermometer is an option. We test the thermostat when there is a knob and read the display when there is one.
