Speed Queen Washer Error Code E do: Door Opened While Locked
E do means the control saw the door-open and door-locked signals high at the same time during a cycle. Power the machine down to clear it, and wait for the lock to release before opening the door. If it comes back with nobody touching the door, a switch or its wiring is misreading.
Medium: the cycle stops, but the machine can run again after a reset unless the door signal keeps misreading.

What does Speed Queen error code E do mean?
A washer door has two pieces of information the control uses: whether the door is closed and whether the lock is engaged. Normally those two signals agree. A door that is open cannot also be locked, so if both inputs go high at once, the control knows that either someone forced the door against the lock or one of the switches is giving a wrong answer. The control reacts by stopping the cycle to protect people and the machine, because it can no longer tell whether the drum is safely enclosed. It shows E do on the display, and on the older stacked washer/dryer it reads E:do. The check runs continuously while a cycle is running, which is why a quick tug on the door during a wash can set it. A door that was never touched but still triggers the code points to a worn switch, a loose plug at the door, or latch parts that no longer line up.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers Quantum frontload washers in the FLW1535C family, the washer side of the SWD447C stacked washer/dryer, and CHM495R washer-extractors from 20 to 100 pounds. Other controller generations may word door messages differently.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The cycle stops partway through with E do on the display
- The door lock clicks or buzzes and the machine will not restart
- The code appears right after someone opens the door
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Whether the door was pulled during the cycle
- Door switch and lock switch readings
- Plug and wiring at the door
- Latch alignment
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E do on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A door that closes crooked, so the closed switch and lock switch trigger out of sequence
- A door plug whose contacts have corroded from steam and detergent
Safe checks before calling for service
- Power the machine down to clear the code, as the owner's manual describes, then power it back up.
- Wait for the lock to release before swinging the door open.
- Do not hold the door switch in place or tape it down to get past the code.
- If E do returns with nobody near the door, write down the cycle step it happened in and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code E do
- Read the code and ask what the machine was doing and whether anyone opened the door.
- Inspect the door, hinge and latch for alignment and wear with power off.
- Check the door and lock switch readings with a meter while moving the door through its range.
- Inspect the plug and wiring at the door for corrosion or a pinched wire.
- Replace the switch or lock assembly only after a reading proves it wrong.
- The door switches are wired into the control circuit behind the front panel, and checking them live needs a trained technician.
- Bypassing a door switch removes the protection that stops a spinning drum, so we never do it.
- The switch readings have to be compared against the true door position, which takes a meter and the machine's own wiring diagram.
How error code E do differs from similar codes
The same E do text on other Speed Queen controls can point to a different door condition, so match the controller family before acting.

Related Speed Queen washer error codes
Can I keep running the washer after E do?
Once the code is cleared by powering down, it can run again. If it repeats, stop using it and call us, since a door switch that misreads is a safety input.
Will E do clear on its own?
The cycle stays stopped until you power down. The code itself returns only if the cause is still present.
Is E do the same as E door?
They are related, but E do compares two door inputs on Quantum and CHM495R controls, while E door on a CHM1792C reports the door opening mid-cycle.
