Speed Queen Washer Error Code EdF1: No Tachometer Signal
EdF1 means the control saw no tachometer signal from the motor within six seconds of starting it, so it stopped the drive. The washer will not spin and a wet load stays in the drum. Cycle the power once, try an empty drum, and call us if EdF1 comes back.
High: the drive stops, the washer will not spin, and it stays down until the cause is fixed.

What does Speed Queen error code EdF1 mean?
The tachometer tells the control how fast the drum is turning. When the control starts the motor, it expects pulses from the tach to show up quickly. If none arrive within six seconds, the control cannot know whether the motor is turning, jammed or disconnected, so it stops the drive rather than keep powering a motor it cannot see. The display then shows EdF1 on a Quantum frontload washer. Because this check happens at the start of a spin, the wash and rinse steps may have finished normally and the load is simply left wet. The code points at the motor feedback path, meaning the tach wiring and plug, the motor connection to the inverter, a drum that will not turn freely, or the inverter control itself. It does not concern water, the door or payment, which is why cycles can run up to the spin and only then stop.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The drum does not spin up and the load stays soaked
- EdF1 appears on the display soon after a spin begins
- Wash and rinse steps ran normally before it stopped
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Tachometer wiring and plug
- Motor connection to the inverter
- A drum that does not turn freely with power off
- Inverter control
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EdF1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A tach plug at the motor that has pulled partly out after months of extract vibration
- Tach pulses lost because lint or moisture has built up at the motor connector
Safe checks before calling for service
- Unpower the machine to reset it; the manual's reset for Quantum drive codes is a power cycle.
- Wait until the door lock has released before opening the door.
- Run a single cycle with an empty drum.
- If EdF1 returns, call us and say whether it appeared at the start of the spin or somewhere else.
How a technician diagnoses error code EdF1
- Read the code, then confirm it repeats on a spin start with an empty drum.
- With power off, turn the drum by hand to rule out a jam, a dragging belt or a bad bearing.
- Inspect the tach wiring and plug and the motor leads to the inverter for damage or corrosion.
- With the machine powered, check for tach pulses at the control while the motor is commanded to start.
- Check the inverter output to the motor with a meter.
- Replace the tach, motor or inverter only after the test points to that part.
- The motor, tach and inverter wiring carry live 208-240 V behind the panels.
- Telling a missing tach signal from a dead motor needs a meter and a live start-up test.
- The inverter is a control part that should be changed only after the circuit is proven.
How error code EdF1 differs from similar codes
EdF2 through EdF5 are the sibling Quantum drive codes: DC bus voltage, power module overcurrent, module temperature and failure to reach 20 RPM.

Related Speed Queen washer error codes
Can I keep running the washer with EdF1?
No. The drive is stopped and the washer will not spin, so wet loads would just sit in the drum.
Will a power cycle clear EdF1?
The manual's reset for Quantum drive codes is a power cycle, but it only clears the display. If the tach signal is still missing, the code returns on the next spin.
How is EdF1 different from EdF5?
EdF1 is no tach signal at all within six seconds. EdF5 is a motor that started but did not reach 20 RPM within 10 seconds.
