Speed Queen Washer-Extractor Error Code E d 63: Temp Sensor Short
E d 63 on a CHM1792C washer-extractor is a fatal IPM temperature short error, a hardware failure. The drive reads the power module's temperature sensor as shorted, so it cannot tell how warm the module is and stops. Power down to clear the display and call us if it returns.
High: a fatal drive hardware error that stops the machine until it is repaired.

What does Speed Queen error code E d 63 mean?
The power module on the drive board has its own temperature sensor, and the drive depends on it to avoid overheating. The sensor's signal must stay within a believable range. When the signal looks like a short, the drive does not know how warm the module is, and rather than run without protection it stops and stays stopped until power is removed (display text: E d 63). A genuinely hot module has a code of its own, E d 25, so E d 63 is about the sensor circuit rather than real heat. The owner's manual says powering the machine down clears the display. The manual lists a temperature sensor circuit on the drive that reads as a short, a loose or damaged connector on the drive board, and a drive board whose power module sensing has failed. Since the sensing circuit is part of the board, a persistent code usually ends in a board replacement after the connector is checked.

What you may notice
- E d 63 on the display
- The machine stops and stays stopped until power is cut
- The cabinet is not unusually warm
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Temperature sensor circuit on the drive that reads as a short
- Loose or damaged connector on the drive board
- Drive board whose power module sensing has failed
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E d 63 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Moisture on the drive board bridging the sensor traces
- A connector pin bent when the board was last handled
Safe checks before calling for service
- Powering the machine down clears the display, according to the owner's manual.
- The door stays closed until the lock releases.
- The cabinet stays closed.
- Should the code return, ask for a visit and tell us what the display showed.
How a technician diagnoses error code E d 63
- Read E d 63 and confirm it is not accompanied by E d 25.
- Inspect the drive board connectors for pins, corrosion and moisture.
- Check the sensor circuit resistance against the board's specification.
- Look for signs of liquid or burn on the board.
- Replace the drive board when the sensing circuit fails the test.
- The sensor circuit sits on a board with stored charge at 208-240 V.
- Moisture on the board must be dried and its source traced before power returns.
- Measuring a sensing circuit needs the drive's specification, not a guess.
How error code E d 63 differs from similar codes
E d 64 is the same sensor reading as open; E d 63 is shorted.

Related Speed Queen washer error codes
Is the module actually hot?
Not necessarily. E d 63 says the sensor reading looks shorted.
Is E d 63 the same as E d 25?
No. E d 25 is a genuinely hot module.
Does a restart fix it?
It clears the display but not a failed sensing circuit.
