Speed Queen Washer-Extractor Error Code E d 64: Temp Sensor Open
E d 64 on a CHM1792C washer-extractor is a fatal IPM temperature open error, a hardware failure. The power module's temperature sensor circuit reads as disconnected, so the drive stops. Turn the power off first and call us if the code returns.
High: a fatal hardware error; the drive stops until the sensor circuit is repaired.

What does Speed Queen error code E d 64 mean?
The drive board keeps a temperature sensor on its power module, and the drive reads it to avoid overheating. A working sensor circuit passes a small signal that changes with temperature. When the circuit reads as open, as if the wire or the sensor were disconnected, there is no signal at all, and the drive has no way to tell how hot the module is (display text: E d 64). Without a valid reading the drive cannot protect the module, so it stops and stays stopped until power is removed. It is the opposite of E d 63, where the circuit reads as shorted. The owner's manual says that cutting the power clears the code. The manual lists a drive temperature sensor circuit that reads as disconnected, a loose plug on the drive board sensor lead, and a drive board whose temperature input has failed open. The cabinet is not necessarily hot, and the load stays in the drum while the code shows.

What you may notice
- E d 64 on the display
- The machine stops and stays stopped until power is cut
- The load stays in the drum
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Drive temperature sensor circuit reads as disconnected
- Loose plug on the drive board sensor lead
- Drive board temperature input failed open
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E d 64 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A sensor lead that came free after the drive board was last serviced
- Corrosion on the sensor plug pins in a damp utility room
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the power off first; the owner's manual says that clears the code.
- Let the lock release before the door opens.
- Keep the cabinet closed.
- If the code returns, book a technician and keep customers away from the machine meanwhile.
How a technician diagnoses error code E d 64
- Read E d 64 and confirm it is not paired with a real heat code.
- With power locked out and the drive discharged, inspect the sensor lead plug.
- Check continuity of the sensor circuit to the board.
- Measure the sensor's resistance against its specification.
- Replace the lead or the drive board according to the result.
- The drive board holds charge at 208-240 V after power is off.
- An open sensor circuit can be a plug, a lead or the board, and a meter is needed to separate them.
- A drive running without temperature protection can be destroyed.
How error code E d 64 differs from similar codes
E d 63 reads the same sensor as shorted; E d 64 reads it as open.

Is E d 64 a heat warning?
No. It means the temperature sensor circuit looks disconnected.
How does it differ from E d 63?
E d 63 is a short; E d 64 is an open circuit.
Can I run the machine after a restart?
It will likely return the code if the sensor circuit is still open.
