Speed Queen Washer Error Code E:00: Wand Not Aimed at Control

E:00 is a general error on older timer-type topload washers with the EDC control. It shows when the Micro-wand IIIe is not aimed properly at the infra-red communicator. The washer keeps its settings, so aim the wand again and hold it steady.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: a programming-tool message; wash cycles are unaffected.

What does Speed Queen error code E:00 mean?

Older EDC topload washers can be programmed and read through a handheld tool, the Micro-wand IIIe, which talks to the control by infra-red light. The control has a small window, the communicator, that must see the wand while information passes between them. E:00 is the general code for a failed attempt, and it appears when the wand is not aimed properly at that window (display text: E:00). Only the programming or audit conversation is affected. The wash circuits are not involved, and the washer keeps the settings it had before the attempt. That means nobody has lost a program, and the machine can go on washing. The manual's remedy is to point the wand at the communicator, hold it steady until the exchange finishes, and wipe the window if it looks dirty. This timer-type topload is an older line that is still in service in many laundries, and we repair it. If the code keeps showing even with a careful aim, the wand or the control's window may need attention.

Affected models and control systems

Older Speed Queen timer-type topload washers with the EDC electronic control (Micro-wand IIIe programming). Newer Quantum washers use a different code set.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Dirty communicator window on the control

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E:00 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A wand that has been dropped in the laundry room and no longer aims true
  • Detergent haze on the control window from years of nearby use

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Point the Micro-wand IIIe at the infra-red communicator, as the owner's manual says.
  2. Hold it steady until the exchange is done.
  3. Wipe the communicator window with a dry cloth.
  4. If E:00 keeps showing, ask us to schedule service and tell us which wand step you were on.

How a technician diagnoses error code E:00

  1. Confirm E:00 appears only during a wand attempt.
  2. Try a second wand or fresh batteries to rule out the tool.
  3. Inspect and clean the communicator window.
  4. Compare the exchange at several distances and angles.
  5. Check the control's infra-red receiver only after the wand and window are cleared.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Testing the receiver means opening the control area, which carries line voltage.
  • Reprogramming a washer's settings with the machine's own data should only be done by someone who records the original values first.
  • Telling a bad wand from a bad control needs a known good wand.

How error code E:00 differs from similar codes

E:00 is the general wand error; E:01, E:09 and E:0A are the proximity versions, and E:02, E:0B and E:0C are disconnections.
