Speed Queen Washer Error Code E:08: Inoperative Control
E:08 on older EDC topload washers is listed as an inoperative control, the same description as E:07. The control cannot do its job, so the washer will not operate properly. Power cycle it once and call us if the code is still there.
High: the control reports it is inoperative, and the washer will not run reliably.

What does Speed Queen error code E:08 mean?
E:08 belongs to the same entry in the manual as E:07, and both describe an electronic control that is not working. This is not a wand message, so aiming the Micro-wand IIIe at it will not help. The control runs on a steady supply and a working program. When either is lost, it cannot carry out the commands that run the washer, and it stays on the code until power is cycled (display text: E:08). The manual's possibilities read a little differently here: a control board that cannot run its program, a weak supply reaching the control, or a plug on the control that has worked loose. These are all conditions that leave the washer with no one at the controls. Timer-type toploads like this are an older line, but they are still working in laundries, and we repair them. After a power cycle the display may recover for a moment, yet a code that returns means the cause is still present. Keep customers away from the washer meanwhile.
Affected models and control systems
Older Speed Queen timer-type topload washers with the EDC electronic control (Micro-wand IIIe programming). Newer Quantum washers use a different code set.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Control board cannot run its program

- Plug on the control worked loose
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E:08 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A shared circuit in the laundry sagging when several machines start at once
- Moisture that reached the control housing through the top of the cabinet
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the washer's power off and back on, and see if the display recovers.
- Reach into the drum only after the lid lock releases.
- Leave the cabinet closed.
- If E:08 returns, schedule a technician and keep customers away from the washer.
How a technician diagnoses error code E:08
- Read the code and see whether it returns after power is cycled.
- Check supply voltage at the washer under load.
- Inspect the control housing for moisture or loose plugs with power off.
- Check grounding and the neutral connection that feeds the control.
- Replace the control board only when the supply and plugs test normal.
- A weak supply and a failing board look identical on the display, so both need a meter at live voltage.
- Moisture inside the control housing is a shock risk until the machine is isolated.
- A replacement control must be installed with the washer's settings restored.
How error code E:08 differs from similar codes
E:07 carries the same manual description with its own list of possible causes.
