Speed Queen Washer Error Code E:0B: Infra-Red Link Broken
E:0B on older EDC topload washers is another infra-red disconnection. The link between the Micro-wand IIIe and the control broke during the exchange, so the conversation ended before it was complete. Try again with a steady hand.
Low: a dropped wand link; wash cycles are unaffected.

What does Speed Queen error code E:0B mean?
An exchange between the Micro-wand IIIe and the control happens in one continuous run. The control expects the infra-red link to stay open until it receives the end of the message. When the link drops in the middle, it flags a disconnection, and E:0B is one of the numbers it uses (display text: E:0B). The wash cycle is not affected, and the control keeps its earlier settings until a full exchange succeeds, so there is no half-saved program to worry about. The manual lists three ideas: a wand that wobbled during the exchange, a wand battery that failed mid-transfer, and a dirty window breaking the link. It is easy to confuse with the proximity errors, but a disconnection means the link started well and failed later. Many older timer-type toploads are still in service, and we repair them. A repeat attempt with the wand steadied against something solid often completes it.
Affected models and control systems
Older Speed Queen timer-type topload washers with the EDC electronic control (Micro-wand IIIe programming). Newer Quantum washers use a different code set.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E:0B on the display part way through a transfer
- The wand seems to start and then stop
- Washing is unaffected
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Wand wobbled during the exchange
- Wand battery failed mid-transfer
- Dirty window broke the link
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E:0B on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A wand held in a hand that rests on the vibrating lid during the exchange
- A loose contact in the wand battery compartment
Safe checks before calling for service
- Keep the Micro-wand IIIe connected to the communicator until the exchange ends, as the owner's manual says.
- Wipe the window if it looks dirty.
- Try the exchange again with a steady hand.
- If E:0B returns, book service with us and note how long the link held.
How a technician diagnoses error code E:0B
- Confirm E:0B appears after a successful start.
- Test with a second wand and new batteries.
- Clean the window and inspect its condition.
- Repeat with the wand braced to remove movement.
- Evaluate the receiver only when the tool and window are cleared.
- The control housing contains line voltage, so anything beyond cleaning the outside window is technician work.
- Separating a failing wand from a failing receiver requires a second known good wand.
- Checking the settings after an interrupted exchange means reading the machine's own values.
How error code E:0B differs from similar codes
E:02 and E:0C are the other numbers the maker lists for the same type of disconnection.
