UniMac Commercial Washer Error Code E Ld: Level Drop Leak
E Ld is a water leak error on UniMac QN, UC-series and UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors: a level that falls when it should hold steady. On QN machines, press any keypad to clear the display. Look for standing water, dry the area, and call us if water keeps seeping.
Medium: a leak can damage the floor and the machine, though the cycle stops rather than running on.
What does UniMac error code E Ld mean?
While the machine holds water for a wash, the level should stay steady. If the level falls when the control is not draining, it concludes that the drain valve is leaking or not seating, and it raises E Ld. The UC control describes it as a drain valve error from a level drop. On QN machines the code shows for one minute after the door is opened at the end of a cycle. Drain valve seating and operation come first. Debris or lint holding the valve open is a common reason for a valve that will not seat. The water level sensor and its tubing can also misread, and leaks at the drain hose or tub connections can look the same from the control's side, because water leaves and the level drops. Standing water on the floor is the sign to look for.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to UniMac QN (such as the UCA020QN), UC-series and UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors in the CHM1792C, CHM495R and PHM1263R families. On QN machines the code shows for one minute after the door is opened at the end of a cycle.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E Ld on the display
- Water level dropping during a wash
- Water on the floor under or behind the machine
- Gurgling from the drain while the machine is filling
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Drain valve seating and operation
- Debris or lint holding the valve open
- Water level sensor and tubing
- Leaks at the drain hose or tub connections
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Ld on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A small item such as a coin or button wedged in the valve seat
- A drain hose clamp that has loosened and drips at the connection
- A level tube with a pinhole that lets the pressure signal bleed away
Safe checks before calling for service
- On QN machines, press any keypad to clear the display.
- Look at the floor under and behind the machine for standing water, without moving it.
- Dry the area to prevent slips.
- Stop using the washer until we have checked the drain valve.
- Call us if water keeps seeping.
How a technician diagnoses error code E Ld
- Ask where the water is and whether the level falls during fill, wash or rinse.
- Inspect the hose, clamps and tub connections for leaks with the machine drained.
- Check the drain valve seat for debris and test its sealing.
- Check the level sensor tubing for holes or kinks.
- Compare the sensor reading with the actual water level.
- Repair the leak, clean or replace the valve, or replace the tube.
- A leaking valve can empty a tub of hot water onto the floor.
- Valve work involves live control wiring near water.
- Telling a drain valve leak from a sensor error needs the actual level compared with the reading.
How error code E Ld differs from similar codes
E Ld is a level that falls when it should hold, whereas E LF is a level that rises more than it should.

Related UniMac washer error codes
Is E Ld a flood warning?
It is a warning that the level is dropping. Check for water on the floor.
Does the QN code stay on?
On QN machines it shows for one minute after the door is opened at the end of a cycle.
Is it the valve or the hose?
Either can cause it. We check the valve seat first, then the hose and tub connections.
