UniMac Washer Error Code E ro: Rotation Sensor
E ro on a UniMac pocket hardmount washer-extractor means the drum rotation sensor is sending the control a poor or missing signal. The control may finish the cycle on coast times, but spin and brake timing become estimates. Let the cycle end, power down once the drum stops, and call us if E ro returns.
Medium: the machine can finish cycles on coast times, but drum speed is not measured.
What does UniMac error code E ro mean?
E ro is the rotation sensor error on UniMac UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors such as the UWL035K12. A sensor near the drum tells the control that the drum is turning and how fast. The control uses that information to time the spin, the brake and the door release safely, so it is a safety input as well as a convenience. When the sensor signal is poor or missing, the control cannot measure speed anymore. To finish the cycle it falls back on coast times instead of measuring the speed. The washer may therefore complete the wash, but the spin and brake timing are guesses based on time and not on real drum speed. The message E ro stays on the display until the cause has been dealt with, so the operator keeps seeing it even when the wash finishes. The manual lists a sensor set too far from its target, loose wiring or connector, lint or dirt on the sensor, and a control input that gets a poor signal.
Affected models and control systems
Listed for the PHM1263R family of UniMac UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors (UWL/UWN/UWU 035-125), with the UWL035K12 as the example model, and applies to the front-end control.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E ro stays on the display during and after the cycle
- The washer finishes but spin seems slower or faster than usual
- The drum takes longer to stop, or the door releases later than expected
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Rotation sensor set too far from its target
- Sensor wiring or connector that is loose
- Dirt or lint packed on the rotation sensor
- Control input that gets a poor signal
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E ro on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Machine vibration over time shifting the sensor bracket and widening the gap to its target
- Lint and moisture caking the sensor face in a laundry room with heavy lint load
- A sensor lead rubbing on a moving part and wearing its insulation
Safe checks before calling for service
- Let the cycle finish if the machine continues, then power down once the drum stops.
- Keep the area around the machine clean and dry.
- Do not open panels to adjust the sensor.
- If E ro returns, call us.
- Note how the spin and brake sounded and whether the door released normally.
How a technician diagnoses error code E ro
- Read E ro and watch a spin to see whether the control runs on coast times.
- Inspect the sensor face and its target for lint, dirt and damage with the machine locked out.
- Check the gap between the sensor and its target against the manual and adjust it if it is out of range.
- Check the sensor wiring and connector, and look at the signal with a meter or scope while the drum is turned by hand.
- Replace the sensor or repair the wiring only after the gap and signal checks, then run a full spin test.
- The sensor sits near the spinning drum and its drive, so adjusting it requires locking out power and removing guards.
- Setting the sensor gap needs the right gauge and the manual's specification, otherwise the signal can be marginal.
How error code E ro differs from similar codes
E ro appears on UW pocket hardmount machines. It is about drum speed feedback, unlike E SP, which is a communication loss between the main control and the motor control.

Related UniMac washer error codes
Can I still use the washer with E ro?
It usually finishes cycles using coast times. We still recommend a repair, because the control cannot tell exactly how fast the drum is turning.
What does the rotation sensor do?
It tells the control that the drum is turning and how fast. That lets the control time the spin, brake and door release safely.
Will replacing the sensor cost much?
Often it is a small part. We confirm that the sensor is the cause before replacing it.
