UniMac Commercial Washer Error Code E d 34: Locked Rotor
E d 34 on a UniMac QN washer-extractor is a locked rotor error: the motor did not turn when the drive told it to. Turn the main power off to reset it, check that the empty drum turns freely by hand, and call us for a repeat.
High: a locked rotor can overheat the motor and drive, so repeated starts should be avoided.
What does UniMac error code E d 34 mean?
The rotor is the rotating part of the motor. When the drive sends power and the rotor does not move, the motor draws heavy current and produces heat without doing any work. The drive recognizes that pattern and stops quickly to protect the motor, then shows E d 34 as the cycle ends. Something may be holding the drum, the bearings may be dragging, or the motor may be unable to produce enough torque. A break in the motor harness can leave the motor without torque, even though the drive is working. This differs from E d 33, which is about the start-up routine, and from E d 29, where no motor is seen at all. Here the drive can see the motor, and it is sure the rotor is stuck.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to UniMac QN washer-extractors of 20 to 100 lb, such as the UCA020QN, in the CHM1792C family with the front-end control and motor drive.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E d 34 on the display
- Motor humming while the drum stays still
- Cycle ending immediately after spin is called for
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Something holding the drum, or bearings dragging so it cannot turn
- A motor harness break that leaves the motor without torque
- A motor that cannot produce the torque needed to turn
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E d 34 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A small item such as a belt buckle wedged between the basket and shell
- Bearings that corroded after repeated leaks into the bearing housing
- A motor with one phase lost, so it hums but cannot turn the load
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the washer's main power off to reset it.
- With power off and the drum still, check that the empty drum turns freely by hand, without forcing it.
- Look from the door for anything caught between the drum and the shell.
- Do not reach into the drum area while any part could move.
- A repeat of E d 34 calls for a visit from us, so note what was in the load.
How a technician diagnoses error code E d 34
- Ask what was in the last load and how the stop sounded.
- With power locked out, turn the drum by hand and inspect for a wedged object.
- Check the bearings and seals for drag or water damage.
- Verify all three motor leads reach the motor and read balanced resistance.
- Check that the drive delivers output when commanded.
- Replace the failed bearing, harness or motor.
- A stuck basket can release suddenly, so hands must stay out of the drum area.
- A motor that hums without turning draws heavy current and can burn out quickly.
- Bearing replacement and winding tests need tools and live-circuit safety.

What is the difference between E d 33 and E d 34?
E d 33 is a start-up routine failure. E d 34 means the drive sent power and the rotor stayed locked.
Could a small item be the cause?
Yes. Something caught between the drum and shell can hold the basket. We check for that first.
Is it safe to try again?
Power off clears it and one retry is fine. Repeated tries on a locked rotor can overheat the motor.
