UniMac Commercial Washer Error Code TEMP: Over-Temperature Alarm
TEMP on the WE-6 display means the temperature sensor recognized an over-temperature limit condition. It is recoverable, but only after the temperature falls below the alarm level. Then press Enter to restart the step or Clear to abort within two minutes.
Medium: the cycle is held until the water cools, then the operator decides.
What does UniMac error code TEMP mean?
The computer reads the tub temperature through its sensor and compares it with an alarm level. When the reading goes over the limit, it shows TEMP and holds the machine. The manual makes a point about how it clears: the error is recoverable, but only after the temperature has dropped below the alarm level. Once it has, the operator has two minutes to respond, with Enter to restart the step or Clear to abort the cycle. Typical reasons for the limit being exceeded are a programmed temperature that is set too high, a hot water supply that is hotter than expected, or a heat input that did not shut off when it should have. TEMP differs from OVERHT, which says that the temperature input circuit itself is open or shorted, or that readings are outside the allowable limits.
Affected models and control systems
UniMac pocket hardmount washer-extractors UW35P2, UW35P3, UW60P2 and UW60P3 with the WE-6 computer control.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- TEMP on the display
- Water in the tub very hot
- Buzzer pulsing
- Cycle held until the temperature drops
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code TEMP on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Hot water supply hotter than the program expects
- Program temperature set too high for the step
- Heating valve or contactor that does not shut off
- Temperature sensor reading higher than the true temperature
Safe checks before calling for service
- Wait for the water to cool below the alarm level before pressing anything.
- Then press Enter to restart the step, or Clear to abort, within two minutes.
- Do not open the door while the tub is hot.
- Check the temperature setting in the cycle against what was intended.
- Write down the step, the cycle number and the water temperature if it is visible.
How a technician diagnoses error code TEMP
- Read TEMP and the cycle step.
- Compare the displayed temperature with a reference thermometer.
- Check the supply temperature and the heating valve or contactor.
- Test the sensor and its wiring.
- Adjust the program or replace the failing part and run a test cycle.
- Hot water and heat controls are a scald risk.
- Heating valves and contactors are wired at line voltage.
- A sensor can only be judged against a reference thermometer and a meter.
How error code TEMP differs from similar codes
TEMP is a recoverable limit condition. OVERHT is a non-recoverable problem with the temperature input.

When can I press Enter after TEMP?
Only after the temperature has fallen below the alarm level, as the manual states.
Is TEMP the sensor failing?
No. That is OVERHT. TEMP says a limit was exceeded.
What happens if I do nothing?
The computer aborts the cycle after the two-minute window.
