Nor-Lake Walk-In Error Code CCA: Compressor Sequencer Link Lost

CCA is the LogiTemp alarm for lost communication to the KE2 Compressor Sequencer OEM on a Nor-Lake walk-in. The evaporator controller no longer knows what the compressors are doing, and the box may warm because the sequencer is not told to run them. Take a box temperature reading right away and call us.

Medium · inspection needed

High: without the sequencer link the compressors may not run, and the box can warm.

What does Nor-Lake error code CCA mean?

On a Nor-Lake Split-Pak system with several compressors, a KE2 Compressor Sequencer OEM stages them on and off. The evaporator controller does not run the compressors itself. It asks the sequencer for cooling over a communication link. The controller watches that link, and when it can no longer talk to the sequencer, it raises CCA. From that moment it cannot see what the compressors are doing, and it cannot call for cooling the normal way. The display shows CCA, and the box may warm because nothing is telling the compressors to run. For that reason this alarm matters more than the sensor alarms, where cooling usually continues. The cause is usually in the path between the two devices: the cable between the evaporator controller and the sequencer, power to the sequencer, the connectors and terminals at each end, or the sequencer address and communication settings. A switch left off near the sequencer panel is the simplest cause and the first thing worth checking.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the LogiTemp / KE2 Evap OEM controller on Nor-Lake Split-Pak systems with A1 refrigerants that use a KE2 Compressor Sequencer OEM.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • CCA on the display
  • Compressors silent while the box is above set point
  • Box temperature rising
  • Sequencer panel dark or its status light off

Possible causes

Listed in Nor-Lake's documentation

  • Cable between the evaporator controller and the sequencer
  • Power to the sequencer
  • Connectors and terminals at each end
  • Sequencer address and communication settings

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code CCA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Disconnect or breaker feeding the sequencer panel switched off after maintenance
  • Communication wire pulled from a terminal when a panel was opened
  • Terminal corrosion at the sequencer in a damp mechanical room

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Write down the code and the LED color.
  2. Take a thermometer reading from the box without delay.
  3. Make sure the sequencer panel has power and any switch near it is on.
  4. Call us to schedule service, and move food if the box is warming.

How a technician diagnoses error code CCA

  1. Read CCA and check whether the sequencer has power and a status light.
  2. Confirm the box temperature and compressor state.
  3. Inspect the communication cable and both sets of terminals.
  4. Check the sequencer address and communication settings against the system's setup.
  5. Replace the cable or board only after the link is tested.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The sequencer panel carries line voltage for the compressors.
  • The compressors and refrigerant circuit are involved, so wrong steps can damage a compressor.
  • Addresses and communication settings need the system's setup data.

How error code CCA differs from similar codes

CCA is about the compressor sequencer. CHA concerns the humidity board and CLL the lead and lag controllers, each on a separate link.

CCAQuestions about Nor-Lake error code CCA
Why is the box warming with CCA?

The compressors are called through the sequencer. If the link is down, they may not be told to run.

Can I just restart the controller?

A power-off and on may restore the link if it was a glitch. If CCA returns, do not keep trying; call us.

Is CCA urgent?

Yes if the box is warming. Check the temperature first and move food as needed.
