Nor-Lake LogiTemp Walk-In Notice EFL: Email Alert Not Confirmed

EFL is a notice on Nor-Lake LogiTemp walk-ins that an email alert was not confirmed by the email server after seven attempts. The walk-in keeps cooling, but you may not hear about a real alarm unless someone sees the display. Check the temperature as usual and make sure the network cable is plugged in.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: the walk-in keeps cooling; only remote email notification is affected.

What does Nor-Lake error code EFL mean?

A LogiTemp controller on a network can send its alarms by email. After it sends a message it waits for the email server to confirm, and it tries again if it does not. When the server has not confirmed the message after seven attempts, the controller shows EFL. The refrigeration side is not involved: the walk-in keeps cooling and the alarm functions keep running. What you lose is the remote notice, so a real alarm might show on the display and never reach your phone. The code is mostly about the path out: the email server address and login saved in the controller, the network connection to the controller, the router or firewall rules for outgoing mail, and the recipient address settings. Changes elsewhere in the building are often behind it, such as a new router, a changed email password or a blocked mail port. Because it affects only notification, EFL is an operator reminder that the alert chain is broken and needs attention before the next real alarm.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to LogiTemp / KE2 Evap OEM controllers on Nor-Lake walk-ins that are set up to send email alerts over a network.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • EFL on the display
  • No email alerts arriving for alarms
  • Walk-in temperature normal
  • Network cable or light dark at the controller

Possible causes

Listed in Nor-Lake's documentation

  • Email server address or login saved in the controller no longer valid
  • Network connection to the controller down
  • Router or firewall rules blocking outgoing mail
  • Recipient address settings wrong

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EFL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Email account password changed without updating the controller
  • Network switch or router replaced and the controller not reconnected
  • Mail provider changed its security requirements

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Note the code and check the walk-in temperature as usual.
  2. Make sure the network cable to the controller is plugged in.
  3. Ask whoever manages your network if anything changed, such as a new router or email password.
  4. Call us to schedule service if you want help with the controller settings.

How a technician diagnoses error code EFL

  1. Read EFL and confirm the controller has a network link.
  2. Check the email server settings and login saved in the controller.
  3. Check the router and firewall rules for outgoing mail.
  4. Send a test alert to the recipient address.
  5. Update the settings that fail and confirm a test email arrives.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Controller network settings can disable alarms if entered wrongly.
  • Testing mail rules needs access to the building's network.
  • Mail account details are private and best entered by the owner with a technician.

How error code EFL differs from similar codes

EFL is about notification only, while codes such as ASA or CCA report problems with the refrigeration system.
