Nor-Lake LogiTemp Walk-In Alarm Code EA2: External Alarm 2 Active
EA2 shows on a Nor-Lake LogiTemp walk-in when the second external alarm input becomes active. An outside device wired to that input has tripped, which does not mean the controller failed. Write down EA2 and the LED color and compare the display with a thermometer in the box.
Medium: an outside device is reporting a condition that has to be identified, even if the box is still holding temperature.

What does Nor-Lake error code EA2 mean?
The second external alarm input on a LogiTemp controller is a channel an installer can wire to a device outside the controller. When the device trips, the controller reports EA2 on the Basic Display. Which device it is depends on how your walk-in was set up, and the controller does not say. That makes EA2 different from a sensor alarm, where the display itself names the failing probe. The alarm tells you the input was triggered, so the real questions are what is on the input, and whether the condition it watches is happening. A device may trip for a real reason, for example a pressure or level condition, or because its contact or wire is damaged and reads as a trip. The controller setting for that input also matters, because a wrong setting can turn a normal state into an alarm. We trace the device, test the contact, and decide whether the alarm is real before touching anything in the refrigeration circuit.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to LogiTemp controllers on Nor-Lake walk-in coolers and freezers where the second external alarm input is in use.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EA2 on the Basic Display with an alarm LED
- Box temperature normal or slightly off
- Something visibly wrong near the equipment
- Alarm repeating after being cleared
Possible causes
Listed in Nor-Lake's documentation
- Device on the second external alarm input has tripped
- Wiring and contact at that input
- Controller setting for that input
- Condition the device watches
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EA2 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Condensate pump or pan switch tripped by a slow drain
- High-pressure or similar safety device opening on a hot day
- Contact blocked by moisture after a washdown
Safe checks before calling for service
- Write down EA2 and the LED color showing.
- Compare the display with a separate thermometer in the box.
- Look around the equipment for water, noise or a tripped switch that you can see without opening anything.
- Call us to schedule service and tell us what you saw.
How a technician diagnoses error code EA2
- Read EA2 and trace the wire to the device on the input.
- Look at the condition the device monitors.
- Test the contact and wiring with a meter.
- Check the input's configuration on the controller.
- Fix the condition or replace the device only after testing.
- The device may be a safety switch protecting the compressor or condensing section.
- Tracing wiring means opening panels that hold live control voltage.
- Input configuration needs the setup that matches your installation.
How error code EA2 differs from similar codes
EA1 and EA3 are the same alarm for the first and third external inputs, and each can be wired to a different device.

What does EA2 watch?
It depends on your walk-in. The installer decides, and we can trace it.
Is EA2 an emergency?
Check the box temperature first. If it is in range and nothing looks wrong, the alarm can wait for a visit.
Will EA2 clear once the condition passes?
Often yes, but if it repeats, the device or the cause needs checking.
