UniMac Industrial Washer Error Code EMTY: Water Not Leaving the Tub
EMTY means the tub still held water when the drain step ran out of time. It is recoverable: Enter or Start repeats the drain, and Clear aborts and runs the stop routine. The manual advises keeping any programmed drain step to one minute or less.
Medium: the tub stays full and the cycle waits for an operator answer.

What does UniMac error code EMTY mean?
A drain step has a clock, and the WE-6 computer holds it to that clock. When the time is up and water is still present, the computer shows EMTY, turns its outputs off and starts a two-minute window for the operator. Enter, which is the same as Start, tries the drain once more. Clear gives up on the cycle and moves into the stop routine. Silence ends the cycle. There is an easy-to-miss detail in the manual: it recommends no more than one minute for a drain step, yet a step set shorter than the machine actually needs will raise EMTY with a perfectly clear drain. So EMTY has two very different explanations. One is a program with too short a drain time, usually after someone changed it. The other is a real restriction in the drain path.

What you may notice
- EMTY on the display
- Standing water behind the glass
- Buzzer pulsing once a second
- Machine waits for Enter or Clear
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Programmed drain-step time shorter than the machine needs to empty
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EMTY on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Lint or a foreign object in the drain outlet
- Drain valve opening only partway
- Floor drain or trench full so the machine cannot discharge
- Level input reading water that has already left
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press Enter or Start to run the drain step again.
- Look at the discharge hose and floor drain for backup.
- If the tub stays full, press Clear and keep the door shut.
- Ask whether anyone edited the drain-step time lately.
- Write down the cycle, step and how long the water stayed.
How a technician diagnoses error code EMTY
- Read EMTY with the cycle and step number.
- Stopwatch a drain and compare the result with the programmed time.
- Inspect the valve, the outlet and the building drain.
- Check the drain output and the level input at the step.
- Adjust the step time or clear the restriction, then run a full cycle.
- The drain valve and level input operate at line voltage.
- A tub holding water is heavy and can spill if a connection is opened.
- Changing a step time is done in programming mode with the site's settings at hand.
How error code EMTY differs from similar codes
EMTY is about water that will not leave. FILL is its mirror, and WATER is the end-of-cycle check that keeps the door locked.

What is the right drain time?
The manual recommends no more than one minute for a programmed drain step.
Can the program alone cause EMTY?
Yes. A step shorter than the real drain time raises it with nothing blocked.
What if I do not answer?
After two minutes the computer aborts the cycle.
