Common Hobart grinders problems
In plain words, the way kitchen and laundry staff describe them when they call.
Grinder will not start
Meat comes out smeared
Overload trips under heavy load
Gear or bearing noise
Leak at the seal
Hobart’s grinder line includes the 4146, 4732, 4732A, 4812 and 4822 grinders and choppers, and the mixer-grinders, which combine a mixing bowl and a grinder in one machine. We service the MG1532, MG2032 and 4246, and older Hobart grinders that have been in meat rooms for years.
When a grinder will not start, the first thing we check is whether the head and pan are seated so the interlock closes. Then we move to the switch, the starter and the overload. If the overload trips under a heavy load, we look at the knife and plate condition and how cold and tough the product is, because a dull knife makes the motor work much harder.
Smeared meat is nearly always a dull knife or a plate that is no longer flat. Gear or bearing noise and seal leaks are signs of wear that get worse with daily washdowns, and we say plainly when an older unit is not worth the cost of a repair. Our work carries a 30-day warranty.

Why does my Hobart grinder smear the meat?
A dull knife or a plate that is no longer flat is the usual cause. We check both, along with how tightly the ring is set, and tell you the written price before replacing anything.
Do you repair Hobart mixer-grinders?
Yes. We service the MG1532, MG2032 and 4246 mixer-grinders. We check the mixing drive and the grinding drive separately so you only pay for what is needed.
My grinder will not start. Is it the motor?
Often it is not. The head or pan may not be seated, which keeps the interlock open. We test the interlock, the switch, the starter and the overload before looking at the motor.
