Common Hobart booster heaters problems

In plain words, the way kitchen and laundry staff describe them when they call.

01

Final rinse below the required temperature

02

Heating element burned out

03

Scale on the booster

04

Rinse dribble from the arm

Hobart’s CLe conveyors have a built-in electric booster of 15 to 30 kW, and the booster is field-convertible. It is a pressure-less stainless steel unit with a 70 degree rise, so the water leaving it is 70 degrees warmer than the water entering. Hobart sells booster kits in 15 kW 208 volt and 30 kW 240 volt versions, and we match the kit to the machine. LXeH and LXeR undercounters also have a built-in booster, with the LXeH needing at least 110 degrees F incoming water.

A final rinse below the required temperature starts our test. We check the incoming water temperature, the thermostat, the element and its contactor. A burned element is often the result of scale, and scale builds fast where the water is hard. The delime routine, or the delime reminder on LXe machines, keeps the element clear of lime. A small dribble from the rinse arm is normal expansion on a booster, so it is not a repair call by itself.

We tell you plainly when an older booster is not worth repairing. You get a written price first and a 30-day warranty on our work.

FAQHobart booster heaters questions
What does a 70 degree rise mean on my Hobart booster?

The booster adds 70 degrees F to the water entering it. A high-temperature rinse of 180 degrees F therefore needs incoming water near 110 degrees F. If the rinse is cool, we test the supply and the booster.

Why did the heating element in my Hobart booster burn out?

Scale is a common reason, because it coats the element and traps heat. Another is running with a low water level. We replace the element, check the controls and explain how to keep lime off it.

Is a dribble from my Hobart rinse arm a booster problem?

A small dribble is normal expansion on a booster. If the water flows constantly, a fill valve is leaking. Call us in that case and we test the valve.
