Nor-Lake Walk-In Error Code HCA: High Condenser Temp Alarm
HCA on a Nor-Lake Split-Pak walk-in with a LogiTemp or KE2 Evap controller means condenser temperature has been above its setpoint plus offset for longer than the delay. Check that the condenser is clear and the fan is running. The manual's Troubleshooting Tables give the corrective actions.
Medium: a hot condenser is a warning that can lead to a lockout if it continues.

What does Nor-Lake error code HCA mean?
HCA is the High Cond Temp alarm in the Alarms and Notifications list of the LogiTemp controller on Nor-Lake Split-Pak systems. A sensor reads the condenser temperature. The controller adds an offset to the condenser setpoint, and if the reading stays above that sum for longer than the delay, it shows HCA with HIGH COND TEMP. The manual gives that meaning and sends the reader to the Troubleshooting Tables from page 52 for actions. It does not name causes. A condenser that runs hot is not rejecting heat well. In a walk-in this commonly happens with a dirty coil or a stopped fan, and on an outdoor unit in summer heat the margin is smaller. Left alone, the high temperature can end in a compressor lockout, so HCA is an early warning.
Affected models and control systems
HCA is listed for the LogiTemp and KE2 Evap OEM controller on Nor-Lake Split-Pak refrigeration systems with A1 refrigerants, in the Alarms and Notifications list printed on pages 48-52. The condenser setpoint, offset and delay are controller settings.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- HCA or HIGH COND TEMP on the display
- Condensing unit running hot
- Cooling slower than usual
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code HCA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Condenser temperature above its setpoint plus offset for longer than the delay
- Dirty condenser coil covered in dust or grease
- Condenser fan stopped or slow
- Hot outdoor air or a blocked enclosure around the condensing unit
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that the condensing unit has clear air space and that nothing is stacked against it.
- Look for a visibly dirty coil through the grille.
- Listen for the fan from outside.
- Do not open panels.
- Write down HCA, the box temperature and the outdoor conditions, for the technician.
How a technician diagnoses error code HCA
- Read the alarm and condenser temperature.
- Check coil cleanliness and airflow.
- Check fan motor and capacitor.
- Read head pressure with gauges.
- Check the condenser setpoint, offset and delay.
- Confirm the fix against the Troubleshooting Tables.
- Fan and capacitor checks involve line voltage.
- Head pressure needs gauges on a sealed circuit.
- Ignoring HCA may lead to a compressor lockout.
How error code HCA differs from similar codes
HCA is the high condenser warning, LCA is its low counterpart, and LCT is the lockout that can follow high discharge temperature.

Is HCA urgent?
It is a warning. Fix the cause before it leads to a lockout.
Will HCA clear when it cools?
Yes, once the condenser temperature falls under the limit.
Can I wash the coil myself?
Cleaning with the power off may help, but have the fan and pressures checked by a technician.
Need help with Nor-Lake error code HCA?
A technician confirms the cause on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
