Speed Queen Commercial Washer Error Code EC:29: Memory Test Failed
EC:29 means the card reader's built-in memory test failed. The manual says the reader is bad and may need to be replaced. Nothing an operator does at the front of the machine is documented to clear it.
Medium: card payment is unreliable until the reader is replaced, and the manual lists no hazard.

What does Speed Queen error code EC:29 mean?
Inside the card reader there is memory that stores its settings and working data. Part of the reader's self-check is to test that memory, and EC:29 is what the washer shows when the test does not pass. The display text is “Diagnostic Test Memory Test Failure”, and the manual explains it as the reader's built-in memory test having failed.
Since memory sits on the reader's own electronics, the manual's remedy is to treat the reader as bad and replace it if needed. It does not list causes, and no operator-level reset is given. This is another reader self-test code, which is why swapping the customer's card or restarting the washer is unlikely to help for long. If the code shows once and then does not return, say so when you call, because a technician will treat a one-time event differently from a repeated one.

What you may notice
- EC:29 on the display after power-up or during card use
- Card functions behave inconsistently
- The code reappears after a restart
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EC:29 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Reader memory chip failing with age
- Voltage spike or brownout that interrupted the reader while it was storing data
- Poor connector contact that resets the reader repeatedly
Safe checks before calling for service
- Write down EC:29 and whether it appeared right after a power interruption.
- Turn the washer off, wait a minute, then turn it on and see whether the code returns.
- Try one card to learn whether card payments work at all.
- Give the technician the date the code first appeared and any storms or outages around then.
How a technician diagnoses error code EC:29
- Repeat the check after a full power-down to separate a one-time event from a failure.
- Check the supply and connector at the reader with the power off and then on.
- Look for signs of overheating, corrosion or damage on the reader.
- Try a known good reader.
- Replace the reader when the swap confirms it, then run test cards.
- The reader's memory cannot be inspected by an operator, and only a swap or a test with a good reader shows its condition.
- The reader is connected to a control enclosure that carries mains-voltage parts.
- After a reader is replaced, the card system settings should be checked against the owner's setup.

Does EC:29 mean my cards are corrupted?
No. It describes the reader's own memory test, not the data on customer cards.
Could a power outage cause it?
The manual does not say so. It does say the memory test failed, and a technician can check the supply.
Should I keep trying cards?
One or two tries to confirm the problem are fine. Repeated tries will not fix a failed memory test.
