The UA, UT and UU dryers in the 120 and 170 pound sizes are large machines with a gas or steam heating system. They run on the On Premise Micro control, which watches a thermistor for temperature and an airflow switch for exhaust. If the switch does not see enough air, the display shows AF and the burner shuts off.
For that reason, long drying times and a burner that cycles on and off nearly always send us to the exhaust first. Lint in the screens, a crushed duct section or a stuck outside damper cuts the airflow, and humid air makes lint pack tighter. We measure the airflow path before touching the control.
OP and SH mean the thermistor circuit is open or shorted. We test the sensor and its connector. If a gas dryer will not light, we look at the ignition and the gas valve, and a drum that will not turn sends us to the belt and motor.

Why does my large dryer shut off and show AF?
The airflow switch is not detecting enough exhaust. Clean the lint screen and check that the vent outlet is clear. If AF returns, we inspect the duct, the switch and the fan.
Do you repair steam-heated dryers?
Yes, we repair both the gas and steam versions of the 120 and 170 pound dryers. We check the controls, airflow and heating system, and quote a price in writing first.
Is an older dryer worth fixing?
Often it is, because the cylinder and frame are sturdy. We will say plainly when a control board and burner repair together cost more than a replacement makes sense.
