Speed Queen dryers use an electronic control with a thermistor that reads drum temperature. When that circuit opens or shorts, the display shows OP or SH and the dryer stops. We test the thermistor and its connector first, then the control.
If a gas dryer runs without heat, or the burner lights and shuts off again, we look at the exhaust before anything else. A crushed or lint-packed duct and a stuck weather hood flapper are the usual reasons, and they hurt more in a hot, humid laundry room. After the exhaust, we check the ignition and the gas valve.
A drum that will not turn points to the belt, the idler or the motor. On coin dryers that give no time, we check the coin drop and its wiring. Stacked washer-dryers from the older line are still in service, and we repair the dryer section of those too.
We close the gas valve and cut power before working on any dryer. The price is in writing first, and our work carries a 30-day warranty.

On a gas dryer it can be the ignition, the gas valve or a restricted exhaust. On an electric one it is often the heating element or a limit. Check that the lint screen is clean, then call us.
What do OP and SH mean on the display?
OP means the temperature sensor circuit is open and SH means it is shorted. The dryer stops until the circuit is repaired. We test the thermistor and its wiring.
I smell gas near my dryer. What do I do?
Leave the building, do not touch switches, and call the gas utility from outside. Do not run the dryer until a technician has checked it.
