Manitowoc Ice Machine Error Code E03: Input Power Loss

E03 is an Event Log entry showing that power to a Manitowoc Indigo ice machine was interrupted and then came back. The machine restarts on its own, so the first thing to do is confirm it is making ice now and look for a tripped breaker. Repeated entries mean the supply circuit needs a look.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: a log note only; the machine restarts and keeps making ice.

What does Manitowoc error code E03 mean?

On Manitowoc Indigo cubers that do not use the NXT display, E03 is not an alarm. It is a simple note the control board writes into the Event Log. When power to the machine drops out, the board has no way to record anything at that moment, so it stamps the loss as soon as power returns and the board starts up again. Nothing appears on the screen and the machine goes back to work without anyone touching it, so staff usually learn about E03 only when a technician reads the log. It says the supply was interrupted, not that anything inside the ice machine is damaged. A single entry after a storm or a building outage is ordinary. A string of entries with no obvious outside cause is more useful, because it points toward something in the supply path, such as a breaker, a disconnect, a loose connection or other equipment on the same circuit. The display text for this entry is E03.

Affected models and control systems

Manitowoc Indigo series cubers with the non-NXT control board (Service menu > Event Log > View ELog). Other Manitowoc controllers, including the NXT type, record events with different numbers.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • No alarm or message on the machine itself
  • The machine restarted by itself and resumed making ice
  • Lights or other equipment in the kitchen went off at the same time
  • An E03 line in the Event Log with a date and time

Possible causes

Listed in Manitowoc's documentation

  • Breaker or disconnect that tripped
  • Loose connections at the supply
  • Storm or building power interruptions
  • Other equipment sharing the circuit

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E03 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A refrigerator or fryer on the same circuit that draws a heavy start-up load and drops the breaker
  • A disconnect switch near the machine that is bumped or not fully closed
  • A cord or plug connection at the wall that has worked loose from vibration

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check that the machine is running and making ice now.
  2. Look at the breaker panel for a tripped breaker, and reset it only if it is clearly labeled for this machine.
  3. Note whether the lights or other equipment lost power at the same moment.
  4. If power drops keep happening, call us to check the circuit.

How a technician diagnoses error code E03

  1. Read the E03 entries in the Event Log and how closely they fall together.
  2. Compare the entry dates with known outages, storms or building work.
  3. Check the disconnect and breaker for the machine, and confirm the voltage at the supply with a meter.
  4. Inspect the supply terminals and connections for heat marks or looseness with power locked out.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Checking supply terminals means working with live voltage on the machine's circuit, which only a qualified person should do.
  • Reading the Event Log means using the Service menu and understanding which entries matter and which are routine.
  • A circuit that keeps dropping may be overloaded, and judging that takes a load calculation and a meter.

How error code E03 differs from similar codes

Event Log numbers differ from controller to controller, so E03 on an NXT display is not the same entry.

E03Questions about Manitowoc error code E03
Does E03 mean the ice machine is damaged?

No. It only records that power was lost. The machine restarts when power returns and needs no repair unless other log entries point to trouble.

Why do I see E03 after a storm?

Storm days often show up as entries.

Should repeated E03 entries worry me?

Yes, if they appear without a storm. Frequent interruptions suggest a loose connection or a weak breaker, and we can trace that on a visit.
