Manitowoc Ice Machine Error Code E10: Dual-Circuit Flooding
E10 is the flooding entry for Manitowoc Indigo ice machines with dual expansion valves and a dual circuit. The board saw two discharge temperatures differ by less than 1.05 F. Note any change in compressor sound, check the water valve and condenser clearance, and call us with the model number.
High: liquid flooding risks the compressor and cuts ice output.

What does Manitowoc error code E10 mean?
This Event Log entry applies to Manitowoc Indigo ice machines without the NXT display that have dual expansion valves and a dual circuit. Like E09, it fires when two compressor discharge line temperatures differ by less than 1.05 F, which the control board reads as liquid flooding the evaporator. On a dual circuit there are two paths for refrigerant, so a valve that opens too far on one of them can push liquid through while the other path looks normal. The sealed system is then out of balance. Ice output suffers, the machine may sound different, and slabs can come out soft. A second possibility is a discharge sensor that reads almost the same as its partner by mistake, which makes the board see flooding that is not there. The display text for the entry is E10. The log cannot tell the cases apart, so a technician uses gauges and a thermometer to decide whether the problem is a valve, a sensor or the amount of refrigerant.
Affected models and control systems
Manitowoc Indigo series cubers with the non-NXT control board (Service menu > Event Log > View ELog). E10 is for dual-circuit machines with dual expansion valves; single-circuit units log E09.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Change in compressor sound
- Lower or uneven ice output
- Soft slabs
- Suction lines unusually cold outside the cabinet
Possible causes
Listed in Manitowoc's documentation
- An expansion valve that floods one circuit of the dual evaporator
- Discharge temperature sensors that read nearly the same by mistake
- Too much liquid refrigerant reaching the compressor discharge side
- An evaporator sensor that gives the board a wrong reading
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E10 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- One valve bulb that slipped on a suction line while the other stayed in place
- A discharge sensor wire pinched during an earlier service and reading the wrong spot
- A charge topped up beyond what a two-circuit evaporator can handle
Safe checks before calling for service
- Note any change in compressor sound or unusually cold suction lines you can see from outside.
- Check the water supply valve and condenser clearance.
- Do not open panels or touch the refrigerant circuit.
- Call us and have the model number ready.
How a technician diagnoses error code E10
- Read the Event Log for E10 and any other flooding or valve entries.
- Check both discharge sensors against a reference thermometer.
- Measure superheat on each circuit with gauges.
- Inspect both valve bulbs for position and insulation.
- Correct the valve, sensor or charge that the readings identify.
- Superheat on two circuits must be measured separately, which needs gauges and clamps.
- Opening the cabinet near the compressor exposes live wiring and moving fans.
- Correcting a charge on a dual circuit is certified refrigerant work.
How error code E10 differs from similar codes
E10 repeats the E09 temperature test, but on machines with two expansion valves.

Can I run the machine with E10?
It may keep making ice, but if the compressor sounds off, turn it off. Flooding can damage it.
Will E10 go away by itself?
No. A valve or sensor that has drifted stays that way until a technician corrects it.
Do I need to know the model number?
Yes, it helps. Dual-circuit Indigo models differ, and we bring the matching parts.
Need help with Manitowoc error code E10?
A technician confirms the cause on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
