Nor-Lake Walk-In Error Code HSA: Humidity Sensor Shorted or Open
HSA reports that the humidity sensor is shorted or open on a Nor-Lake LogiTemp walk-in with KE2 Humidity Control. The controller cannot manage humidity, but temperature control is separate and keeps running. Write down the code and LED color, keep reading the box with your usual thermometer and look for sweating or limp product.
Medium: humidity is no longer managed, though temperature control continues.

What does Nor-Lake error code HSA mean?
Humidity control is an add-on for boxes that need a set moisture level, such as produce or aging rooms. A sensor in the box feeds the humidity board, and the board uses it to decide when to add or remove moisture. HSA appears when that sensor circuit is shorted or open, so the reading is lost. The controller then cannot manage humidity, so it either stops adjusting or works from a bad value. Either way the moisture in the box may drift. The rest of the walk-in is unaffected: the temperature control is separate and keeps running, and the box can hold its temperature while the humidity quietly goes wrong. A sensor in a cold, wet box lives a hard life, which is why the causes include the sensor and its plug, the wiring to the humidity board, moisture damage, and the input on the board itself. Product tells you early: produce looks limp when the box is too dry and sweats when it is too wet.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Nor-Lake LogiTemp walk-in coolers and freezers equipped with KE2 Humidity Control.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- HSA on the display
- Humidity readout missing or not changing
- Produce looking limp or sweating
- Cooling normal
Possible causes
Listed in Nor-Lake's documentation
- Humidity sensor or its plug
- Sensor wiring to the humidity board
- Moisture damage in a cold, wet box
- Humidity board input
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code HSA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Sensor element fouled by condensation or product spray
- Cable insulation split where it passes through the box wall
- Plug corroded from repeated washdowns
Safe checks before calling for service
- Write down the code and the LED color.
- Keep reading the box with your usual thermometer, because cooling is separate.
- Look for signs the box is too wet or too dry, such as sweating product or limp produce.
- Call us to schedule service and tell us what you saw.
How a technician diagnoses error code HSA
- Read HSA and confirm the humidity board is powered.
- Inspect the sensor, plug and cable for moisture or damage.
- Measure the sensor circuit at the board.
- Compare with a reference humidity meter once repaired.
- Replace the sensor or board only after the test.
- Cables run through cold, wet areas where damaged insulation is a shock risk.
- The humidity board is wired near live control voltage.
- Sensor and input tests need a meter and a reference reading.
How error code HSA differs from similar codes
HHA and LHA report humidity that is too high or too low, while HSA reports that the sensor reading is gone.

Does HSA affect cooling?
No. Temperature control is separate.
Can I rely on the humidity readout?
Not while HSA shows. Judge by how the product looks.
Will HSA clear on its own?
Only if a connection was briefly loose. A repeat needs testing.
