Nor-Lake LogiTemp Walk-In Notice NTP: Time Server Not Reached

NTP appears on Nor-Lake LogiTemp walk-ins when the controller cannot reach its external time-of-day (SNTP) server. The walk-in keeps cooling, but log times and any clock-based schedule may be off until the server link returns. Check that the network cable is plugged in and see whether the controller clock is far off.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: a housekeeping notice; the walk-in keeps cooling and only clock accuracy is affected.

What does Nor-Lake error code NTP mean?

A networked LogiTemp controller keeps its clock right by asking an external time server, using SNTP. The time matters because defrost schedules, alarm logs and time stamps all depend on it. If the controller cannot reach the server, it shows NTP. Without the server, the clock may drift. The walk-in keeps cooling, and the compressor and fans are not affected, but the log times and any clock-based schedule may be off until the server link returns. A drifting clock is easy to overlook for weeks, then matters when defrosts land at the wrong hour or an alarm log cannot be matched to an event. The reasons are mostly on the network side: the controller's network connection, the time server address saved in the controller, router or firewall rules that block the request, or the controller clock and time zone settings. A change anywhere in the building network, such as a new router, can start it. NTP is a housekeeping notice and not a refrigeration alarm.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to networked LogiTemp / KE2 Evap OEM controllers on Nor-Lake walk-ins that use an external time server.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • NTP on the display
  • Controller clock showing the wrong time
  • Alarm log times that do not match real events
  • Cooling normal

Possible causes

Listed in Nor-Lake's documentation

  • Network connection of the controller down
  • Time server address saved in the controller no longer valid
  • Router or firewall rules blocking the request
  • Controller clock or time zone settings wrong

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code NTP on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Network cable unplugged during cleaning or a rewiring
  • Router replaced and the internet path changed
  • Time server address retired by its provider

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check that the network cable is plugged into the controller.
  2. Look at the controller clock and see whether the time is far off.
  3. Ask whoever manages your network whether internet access changed.
  4. Call us to schedule service if you want the time setting checked.

How a technician diagnoses error code NTP

  1. Read NTP and confirm the controller has a network link.
  2. Check the time server address and the time zone setting.
  3. Test whether the request leaves the network through the router and firewall.
  4. Correct the clock and confirm that the controller syncs.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Network settings in the controller can disable alerts if entered wrongly.
  • Testing firewall rules needs access to the building network.
  • Clock settings affect defrost scheduling and need to be set correctly.

How error code NTP differs from similar codes

EFL is the related notice for email alerts that were not confirmed. NTP is about the clock only.

NTPQuestions about Nor-Lake error code NTP
Is NTP a problem for my food?

No. Cooling is not affected.

Why does the clock matter?

Defrost schedules and alarm logs use it.

Will NTP clear by itself?

It may once the network path returns. If not, we check the time server settings.
