Speed Queen Washer Error Code door: Door Not Closed
The door message on a Quantum frontload washer or older stacked washer/dryer is an indicator, not a failure. The washer is waiting for the door to shut and lock before the cycle goes on. Push the door firmly closed; if the message stays, the switch or latch needs a look.
Low: an operator prompt; the washer resumes as soon as the door locks.

What does Speed Queen error code Door mean?
Frontload washers do not run with the door open, so the control checks the door every time a cycle is active. When a cycle has been started or is in progress and the door has not been closed and locked, it puts the word door on the display (display text: door). Nothing is wrong with the machine in that moment. It is simply telling the person at the washer what it is waiting for. As soon as the door shuts and the lock catches, the message goes away and the cycle continues. The message becomes a repair question only when it stays on after the door has been pushed firmly closed. The manual then points at the door switch or the latch, and it warns that nobody should jump the switch. The same indicator appears on the older stacked washer/dryer's washer control. A sleeve, sock or gasket fold caught in the opening is the most common everyday reason the door cannot seat, and it is easy to see from outside.
Affected models and control systems
Speed Queen Quantum frontload washers (FLW1535C family) and the washer side of the older stacked washer/dryer (SWD447C). Other generations may word the prompt differently.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Door not pushed fully shut and latched when a cycle is requested
- Cycle active while the door is still open
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Door on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A sleeve or sock pinched between the door and the rubber gasket
- A latch and strike that have drifted out of line after years of slamming
- A door switch that no longer registers a closed door
Safe checks before calling for service
- Push the door shut firmly and listen for the lock to catch.
- Look for a sleeve or sock pinched between the door and the rubber gasket.
- Try starting the cycle again.
- If door stays lit after a firm close, stop using the washer, never jump the switch, and tell us whether you heard the lock click.
How a technician diagnoses error code Door
- Confirm the message appears with the door visibly closed.
- Inspect the gasket, the latch and the strike for alignment and debris.
- Check that the lock mechanism engages and releases freely.
- Test the door switch with a meter in the open and closed positions.
- Replace the switch or latch that fails the test, then run a cycle to confirm.
- The door switch and lock circuit carry line voltage, so testing them means opening the cabinet.
- A door lock that is adjusted or bypassed wrongly can let the drum run with the door open.
- Replacing a latch correctly needs the right part and alignment so the door seals against water.
How error code Door differs from similar codes
Unlike a numbered error, door is a prompt that clears itself once the door shuts and locks.

Related Speed Queen washer error codes
Is door an error code?
No. It is an indicator that the washer is waiting for the door to shut and lock.
Will it clear on its own?
Yes, once the door closes and locks. If it does not, the latch or switch is not registering.
Can I hold the door shut to run the cycle?
No. Holding or jumping the switch is unsafe; the lock is what protects hands from the drum.
