Speed Queen Washer Error Code E PS: Pressure Sensor Error
E PS means the control cannot get a valid reading from the water level pressure sensor. Let the lock release, switch the washer off and on, and try one cycle. If E PS returns, ask for a technician visit.
Medium: the cycle stops because level sensing is lost.

What does Speed Queen error code E PS mean?
The water level in these washers is read by a pressure sensor connected to the tub by a small tube. The control depends on that reading to know when to fill, when to stop and when the tub is empty. When the sensor stops giving a valid reading, the control cannot fill, drain or protect against overflow, so the cycle stops and E PS appears. On the CHM1792C the loss of reading has to last 30 seconds before the code is raised. The code is about level sensing and not about the water supply, which helps separate it from fill errors. The common causes are in the path of the reading: sensor tubing with a kink or water in it, the sensor wiring and plug, the pressure sensor itself, or the control input board. Because the sensor works by air pressure, a tube that has collected water can fool it as easily as a failed sensor.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers Quantum topload washers in the TLW13C family and CHM1792C family washer-extractors. A shorted or open temperature sensor uses different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The cycle stops soon after starting
- E PS shows on the display
- The washer neither fills nor drains
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Sensor tubing for kinks or water
- Sensor wiring and plug
- Pressure sensor itself
- Control input board
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E PS on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A sensor tube that has aged and cracked where it bends, so it cannot hold pressure
- Lint or soap film inside the sensor port that blocks the reading
Safe checks before calling for service
- Let the lock release before the lid or door is opened.
- Switch the washer off and on and try one cycle.
- Do not pull on the tubing or open the cabinet.
- If E PS returns, note when in the cycle it appeared and ask for a technician visit.
How a technician diagnoses error code E PS
- Read the code and ask when in the cycle it appeared.
- Inspect the sensor tubing for kinks, cracks and water.
- Check the sensor plug and wiring for corrosion or a loose pin.
- Read the sensor output at an empty tub and at a known level.
- Check the control input and replace only the part that fails.
- The sensor and control input share low-voltage wiring behind the panel, and measuring it live needs a trained technician.
- Without a level reading the washer cannot protect against overflow, so testing it takes a controlled water level.
- Telling a bad sensor from a bad input takes meter readings and known-good substitutes.

Related Speed Queen washer error codes
Is E PS a water supply problem?
No. It concerns level sensing, not the supply.
Will switching off clear it?
It can, if the reading was only briefly lost. A return means a tube, plug or sensor needs checking.
Can I keep using the machine?
Not safely, since without a reading it cannot guard against overflow.
