Speed Queen Washer Error Code EdF3: IPM Overcurrent
EdF3 means the Quantum drive saw five overcurrent events in a row from the IPM, the power module inside the inverter, and shut itself off. The washer stops with a wet load in the drum. Power it off and on, try a light load once, and call us if EdF3 comes back.
High: the drive shuts off, the washer stops, and it will not run until the cause is fixed.

What does Speed Queen error code EdF3 mean?
The IPM is the power module that switches current to the washer motor. The drive keeps watch on how much current flows through it. If the current spikes above the safe limit, the drive trips; when that happens five times one after another, the drive stops trying and shows EdF3. Too much current means something is drawing more than it should: shorted motor windings or damaged leads, a drum that drags or jams under load, a damaged power module, or a supply that sags just as the motor starts. The check applies to the motor circuit and the inverter, not to the water, the door or payment, so a load can wash and rinse as usual and then be stopped at spin. The washer remains out of action with the wet load inside until the cause is found. A single power cycle only resets the drive; it does not remove whatever drew the current.

What you may notice
- The washer stops at spin with EdF3 on the display
- A wet load stays in the drum
- The motor may hum or trip as soon as a spin is attempted
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Shorted motor windings or damaged motor leads
- A drum that drags or jams under load
- A damaged power module inside the inverter
- Supply voltage that sags during motor start
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EdF3 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A drum bearing or belt that has started to bind, loading the motor on every spin attempt
- Moisture reaching the motor leads where the cable enters the motor housing
Safe checks before calling for service
- Power the machine off and back on to reset the drive.
- Let the door lock release before anyone opens the door.
- Try one cycle with a light load.
- If EdF3 returns, tell us when you phone for service and say whether the drum felt heavy to turn.
How a technician diagnoses error code EdF3
- Read the code and confirm that it repeats on a light load.
- With power off and locked out, turn the drum by hand and feel for drag from the bearings or belt.
- Test the motor windings and leads for shorts to each other and to ground.
- Check the supply voltage at the washer while the motor starts.
- Inspect the inverter for damage or heat marks.
- Replace the inverter or motor only after the circuit tests point at it.
- An overcurrent trip can involve a shorted motor on live 208-240 V wiring, which is a shock and fire hazard to probe.
- Winding and lead tests need a lockout and a meter, and the answer decides whether the motor or the inverter is replaced.
- Repeatedly restarting a drive that is tripping on overcurrent can damage the power module.
How error code EdF3 differs from similar codes
EdF3 counts five consecutive overcurrent events. EdF4 is a temperature trip on the same power module, and EdF5 is a motor that never reaches 20 RPM.

Is it safe to keep trying cycles after EdF3?
No more than one light-load try. Repeated restarts on an overcurrent trip can stress the inverter.
Does a heavy load cause EdF3?
It can, because a drum that drags draws more current. A light load is a useful test, but a repeat points at the motor circuit.
Will EdF3 clear itself?
A power cycle resets the drive, but the code returns on the next spin if the cause is still there.
