Speed Queen Washer Error Code EI04: Waiting for Upload Request
EI04 means a Quantum washer's control expected an upload request from the external device and did not get one in the order it needs. The exchange was set up but the next step never arrived. Start the exchange again from its first step, and call us if EI04 turns up every time.
Low: it concerns only the programming exchange, and the washer keeps running.

What does Speed Queen error code EI04 mean?
An infra-red exchange with a Quantum washer follows a set order. The external device opens the session, and then the control expects the next request, here an upload request, before moving on. If that request does not arrive in the right order, the control stays waiting, posts EI04 and cannot continue. So the link was working, since the session opened, but a step is missing or came out of sequence. Like the other EI codes, it concerns the communication session and not the cycle, water or drum, and it shows on the display during or right after the attempt. The manual's reasons to check are the step order on the external device, whether the session was interrupted, the window aim and distance, and the settings file sent to the control. People most often get it by skipping the upload step on the device or by moving the device away halfway through.
Affected models and control systems
Quantum frontload (FLW1535C family) and Quantum topload (TLW13C family) washers using the infra-red programming link.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EI04 shows partway through a programming or audit exchange
- The control seems to be waiting and does nothing further
- The washer runs its cycles normally
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Step order on the external device
- Whether the session was interrupted
- Window aim and distance
- The settings file sent to the control
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI04 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- An external device menu where the upload step is hidden behind a second screen
- A session that dropped when the device screen timed out
Safe checks before calling for service
- Begin the exchange again from its first step on the external device.
- When the device prompts for the upload step, choose it.
- Keep the device aimed at the control until the display clears.
- If EI04 turns up every time, write down which steps you chose and send us that note with your service request.
How a technician diagnoses error code EI04
- Read the code and walk through the device's steps with the operator.
- Confirm the device sends an upload request after the session opens.
- Check aim, distance and window cleanliness.
- Retry with a different settings file to rule out a damaged file.
- Try a second known-good device.
- Replace the control only after known-good devices and files fail the same way.
- Following the exchange step by step is part of programming the control with the machine's own settings data.
- If the control must be tested, its board carries live supply behind the panel.
- Sending files out of order can overwrite settings that affect door and spin behavior.
How error code EI04 differs from similar codes
EI04 is a missing step in the sequence. EI03 is a command the machine type does not accept.

What does the upload request do?
It is the step the control waits for in a transfer; without it the exchange stops at EI04.
Does EI04 affect my laundry?
No. The cycle, water and drum are not what the code describes.
Will EI04 go away by itself?
It clears after the exchange ends, but a repeat on every attempt needs a service look.
