Speed Queen Frontload Washer Error Code EI0A: Infra-Red Framing Error
On Quantum frontload washers, EI0A reports an infra-red framing error: the bits of the message arrived, but not grouped the way a valid message should be. The wash cycle is not affected. Aim again, steady the device, wipe the window, and call us if EI0A shows again.
Low: it concerns only the infra-red link, and the washer keeps running.

What does Speed Queen error code EI0A mean?
An infra-red message is a stream of bits that the control has to cut into properly framed groups before it can read anything. The framing marks tell the control where each group starts and stops. On a Quantum frontload washer, if those marks are in the wrong places or missing, the control cannot make sense of the data and shows EI0A. The bits were seen, so the window is receiving something; the problem is how they were arranged. This is a data link condition seen during programming or audit exchanges, and the washer's wash, rinse and spin steps are not what the code describes. The manual lists the aim and distance of the external device, anything moving the device during the exchange, the condition of the window at the control, and the external device itself. A hand that drifts, or a device held too far away, is the typical cause.
Affected models and control systems
Quantum frontload washers in the FLW1535C family. On Quantum topload washers the same display text has a different meaning, listed on its own page.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EI0A shows after an infra-red transfer attempt
- The washer runs its cycles normally
- The transfer works when the device is braced on the washer
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Aim and distance of the external device
- Anything moving the device during the exchange
- Window condition at the control
- The external device
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI0A on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A device held at a steep angle so the beam clips the edge of the window
- A washer in a bright corner where stray infra-red light adds noise to the bits
Safe checks before calling for service
- Aim the external device at the control and try again.
- Rest your hand against the washer so the device cannot drift mid-exchange.
- Wipe the control window with a dry cloth.
- If EI0A shows again, copy down the washer's model label and ask us for a visit.
How a technician diagnoses error code EI0A
- Read the code and confirm it is a frontload control.
- Repeat the transfer with the device braced against the washer at a short distance.
- Clean the window and check it for scratches.
- Try a second known-good device.
- Check the control housing around the window for damage.
- Replace the control only if a known-good device fails the same way.
- Comparing devices needs known-good test equipment, not guesswork at the washer.
- The infra-red receiver is wired into the control board, which has live supply behind the panel.
- Settings sent after the repair must match the machine's own data.
How error code EI0A differs from similar codes
On the Quantum topload, EI0A means the message named an invalid machine type. On this frontload it is a framing error.

Related Speed Queen washer error codes
Is EI0A the same on a topload?
No. On Quantum topload washers it means an invalid machine type in the message, so check which washer you have.
Does EI0A stop the washer?
No. It describes the programming link only.
What does framing mean here?
It is how the control splits the bit stream into readable groups. A message that arrives out of shape cannot be read.
