Speed Queen Washer Error Code Err: Coin Error
Err is the coin error on coin-operated Speed Queen washers. The control saw a bad coin pulse, or its coin sensor is not working, so the washer will not credit the payment and the customer cannot start a cycle. Look for a stuck coin or foreign object, try one known-good coin, and call us if Err stays.
Medium: customers cannot pay for a cycle, but the washer itself is not damaged and a stuck coin may clear it.

What does Speed Queen error code Err mean?
A coin-operated Speed Queen washer counts each coin as a pulse from a sensor at the coin drop. Err means the control saw a bad coin pulse, or that its coin sensor is not working. On the older EDC control it can also point at an obstruction in the coin drop or at tampering. When it appears, the washer will not credit that payment, so the customer cannot start a cycle even with the right coins. The code appears on Quantum frontload washers, where it is written E rr, and on Quantum topload, the older EDC topload and CHM495R washer-extractor controls. It does not concern water, the drum or the door. The manual lists the coin slot and coin drop for jammed coins or foreign objects, the coin sensor and its wiring, signs of tampering at the coin drop, and the control input that counts coin pulses. A bent coin or a slug is a common way to get it.
Affected models and control systems
Quantum frontload (FLW1535C family) where it reads E rr, Quantum topload (TLW13C family), timer-type topload washers with the EDC control (Micro-wand IIIe), and CHM495R washer-extractors, all coin-operated.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Err or E rr appears after a coin is inserted
- The washer does not credit the payment
- Coins come back or stay stuck in the slot
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Coin slot and coin drop for jammed coins or foreign objects
- Coin sensor and its wiring

- Control input that counts coin pulses
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Err on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

- A coin sensor window coated with sticky residue from spilled drinks

- Reach out to us and we will arrange a visit with a three-hour arrival window.
How a technician diagnoses error code Err
- Read the code and ask which coin type and slot the customer used.
- Inspect the coin slot, drop and return for jams, slugs or tampering marks.
- Check the coin sensor wiring and connections with power off.
- Drop test coins and watch for the pulse at the control.
- Verify the control input counts pulses correctly.
- Replace the sensor or coin drop only after the test shows the failing part.
- The coin drop and its wiring connect to the control board, which has live supply behind the panel.
- Tampering or a jam inside the coin mechanism needs the coin box opened by trained staff.
- Deciding between a bad sensor and a bad control input takes a meter and test coins.
How error code Err differs from similar codes
Err is the same coin error across several control types. On the older EDC control it can also point at an obstruction or tampering.
