UniMac Commercial Washer Error Code E d 66: DC Bus Read Failure
E d 66 on a UniMac QN washer-extractor is a voltage bus acquisition failure on the drive board: the DC bus voltage feeding the motor could not be read. Removing power clears the display, but the board problem can come back. Try once after a short wait, then call us if E d 66 repeats.
High: the drive cannot protect the motor without a bus reading, so it stops the cycle.
What does UniMac error code E d 66 mean?
The drive converts incoming AC to a DC bus, and it reads the bus voltage constantly to protect itself and the motor from too much or too little. E d 66 means the drive did not manage to read that voltage at all, which is different from E d 21, where the voltage was read and found too high. With no reading it cannot protect the motor or itself, so the cycle stops. A failed voltage sensing circuit on the drive board is the main suspect. A loose connector feeding the board's bus reading can interrupt it, and poor supply voltage quality arriving at the drive can disturb the measurement. Taking power off clears the display and may let the washer run again for a while. If the board is the reason, the code will return, often at the next heavy cycle. A repeat is a sign to have the board tested.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to UniMac QN washer-extractors of 20 to 100 lb, such as the UCA020QN, in the CHM1792C family with the front-end control and drive board.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E d 66 on the display
- Cycle halting just after the motor is called to run
- Code coming back after an apparently good restart
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- A failed voltage sensing circuit on the drive board
- A loose connector feeding the drive board bus reading
- Poor supply voltage quality arriving at the drive
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E d 66 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A resistor in the sensing network that drifted out of tolerance with heat
- Supply noise from a nearby large motor on the same distribution panel
- A board connector oxidized by damp laundry-room air
Safe checks before calling for service
- Removing power is the way to clear the display.
- Give it a moment, then power up and try once.
- Do not open panels.
- After a second E d 66, call us.
- Keep a note of what time the message came up.
How a technician diagnoses error code E d 66
- Confirm the code returns and ask whether other machines on the feed misbehave.
- Measure supply voltage and look for noise or dips under load.
- With power locked out and the drive discharged, inspect the board connectors for the bus sensing lines.
- Compare the bus voltage reading with a meter measurement when the drive is energized.
- Check the board part number against the machine.
- Replace the drive board only after the supply is cleared.
- Measuring the DC bus means working near a charged capacitor bank and live terminals.
- The drive's reading must be compared with a true meter reading, which needs training.
- Supply quality problems are found with logging, not a quick check.
How error code E d 66 differs from similar codes
E d 66 is a failure to read the DC bus, whereas E d 21 means the bus was read and found too high.

Related UniMac washer error codes
Is the voltage too high?
Not necessarily. E d 66 says the drive could not read the bus voltage at all.
Will a restart fix it?
It clears the display. If the sensing circuit is the issue, it can fail again.
Could my building power be to blame?
It can. Poor supply quality can disturb the reading, so we measure it.
