UniMac Commercial Washer Error Code E d Co: Drive Link Lost
E d Co on a UniMac QN washer-extractor signals that the drive board is not communicating with the front-end control. Disconnect and reconnect power, wait for the display to settle, and note any other messages. Call us if E d Co returns.
High: the control cannot start or stop the drum while the drive link is down.
What does UniMac error code E d Co mean?
The front-end control tells the drive board what to do, and the drive board runs the motor. If the control cannot talk to the drive, it cannot start or stop the drum. E d Co is the message for that break in communication. The machine stops, and the display holds the code. Loose connectors, a damaged cable or a failed board are the usual causes. It is a different link from the one behind E Co, which connects the control and the input and output board that handles valves and the door lock. Here the missing partner is the board that drives the motor. A drive board that is not receiving power will not answer, so the supply to that board is part of the check. A restart may restore the link briefly, but an intermittent connection can drop again at the next vibration.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to UniMac QN washer-extractors of 20 to 100 lb, such as the UCA020QN, in the CHM1792C family with the front-end control and drive board.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E d Co on the display
- Drum not starting and keys responding oddly
- Code returning during spin vibration
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- A damaged or pinched cable between the front-end control and the drive board
- A connector working loose at either end of the drive link
- A drive board that is not receiving power or has failed
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E d Co on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A cable worn through where it crosses the cabinet edge
- A fuse or supply lead to the drive board that has loosened
- A connector pin pushed back out of its housing
Safe checks before calling for service
- Disconnect and reconnect power to the machine.
- Wait for the display to settle.
- Do not open the cabinet.
- If E d Co returns, call us.
- Write down any other messages the display shows, and note the time.
How a technician diagnoses error code E d Co
- Ask what happened just before the code and whether other messages appeared.
- With power locked out, inspect the link cable and its routing for damage.
- Reseat both ends of the connector.
- Check that the drive board receives its supply and shows normal indicator behavior.
- Test the cable for continuity.
- Replace the cable or board that fails its check.
- The drive board and its supply sit near live 208 to 240 V terminals.
- An intermittent link needs the machine tested while vibrating, which takes a trained eye.
- Replacing a board without proving the cable first can leave the problem in place.
How error code E d Co differs from similar codes
E d Co is the control-to-drive link, while E Co is the SCI link to the input and output board.

Is E d Co the same as E Co?
No. E Co is the link to the input and output board. E d Co is the link to the drive board.
Will power cycling fix it?
It can restore the link for a while. A damaged cable or loose connector will drop again.
Is the drive board dead?
Possibly, but a cable or supply is checked first.
