UniMac QN Washer Error Code E dL: Fatal Door Lock
On UniMac QN washer-extractors, E dL is the fatal door lock error: the output board saw the door come unlocked partway through a cycle. Stop using the machine and switch the power off. Keep everyone away from the door until the drum has fully stopped, and call us.
High: a door that unlocks during a cycle can expose a moving basket, so the machine should stay off until checked.
What does UniMac error code E dL mean?
The QN control keeps the door locked from the moment a cycle starts until the basket is safe to open. If the output board sees the door come unlocked in the middle of a cycle, the control treats it as a safety event. It ends the cycle and holds the code, and that is the meaning of fatal in this table. It is different from E dL1 and E dL2, which are the softer errors for a door that fails to lock or unlock. Treat E dL as a sign that the lock circuit needs a technician. The door lock solenoid and latch may be worn, the door switch signal to the output board may be dropping out, the wiring to the lock may be loose at either connector, or the lock circuit on the output board may have a problem. Never force the door or bypass the door switch.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to UniMac QN washer-extractors of 20 to 100 lb, such as the UCA020QN, in the CHM1792C family. UC and UW machines use a different E dL with its own timing.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E dL on the display
- Cycle ending suddenly with water or linens still in the drum
- Door that moves or clicks while the drum was turning
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Door lock solenoid and latch condition
- Door switch signal to the output board
- Wiring to the lock at both connectors
- Output board lock circuit
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E dL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A latch tongue worn thin so vibration lets it slip
- A hinge that has dropped, so the door sits unevenly in the lock
- A connector at the lock that heat and steam have corroded
Safe checks before calling for service
- Stop using the machine and switch the power off.
- Keep everyone away from the door until the drum has come to a full stop.
- Never force the door or bypass the door switch.
- Leave the machine off and call us.
- Tell us whether the door moved during the cycle.
How a technician diagnoses error code E dL
- Ask what stage the cycle was in when E dL appeared and whether the door felt loose.
- With power locked out, inspect the lock, latch and strike for wear.
- Check the hinge for sag that lets the door shift.
- Test the door switch and its signal to the output board.
- Check the lock wiring and both connectors.
- Replace the worn lock or wiring, then test with a full cycle.
- A door that unlocks mid-cycle is a hazard if the basket is still turning.
- The lock circuit shares the output board with live valve and motor circuits.
- Bypassing the door switch removes the protection that keeps hands away from the basket.
How error code E dL differs from similar codes
E dL is fatal, whereas E dL1 is a lock that never engages and E dL2 is a lock that will not release afterward.

What does fatal mean here?
It means the control ended the cycle and holds the code, rather than trying to carry on.
Is this the same as E dL1?
No. E dL1 is a door that failed to lock. E dL is a lock that let go in the middle of a cycle.
Can I use the washer on a different setting?
No. The lock circuit needs to be checked before the machine runs again.
