UniMac Commercial Washer Error Code E dL: Door Lock Timing
E dL is the door lock error on UniMac UC-series and UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors, where the lock did not engage or release in time. Power the machine down and back up and retry, but never pull or pry a locked door. Call us if it keeps coming back.
Medium: the cycle stops and the door may stay locked, but the guard is doing its job.
What does UniMac error code E dL mean?
The control checks the door lock twice in every cycle. After the door is closed it waits for the lock to engage, and after the cycle ends it waits for the lock to release. On UC machines it allows 10 seconds for either step. On UW machines it allows 5 seconds to unlock. If the lock is late, the control stops the cycle and shows E dL. On the UC display, E dL alternates with the word door for up to a minute. The lock assembly and its switch are the usual suspects, then the door strike alignment and wear, the wiring and connectors at the lock, and the control output that drives it. A door that will not open after a cycle is a real inconvenience, because wet linens stay inside, but the right response is to wait for the lock, not to pull.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to UniMac UC-series (such as the UCH020GNF) and UW pocket hardmount (UWL, UWN and UWU 035-125) washer-extractors in the CHM495R and PHM1263R families. UC allows 10 seconds, UW allows 5 seconds to unlock.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E dL alternating with door on a UC display
- Door that will not unlock after the cycle
- Door lock that clicks but does not engage
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Door lock assembly and its switch
- Door strike alignment and wear
- Wiring and connector at the lock
- Control output that drives the lock
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E dL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A strike worn flat from years of daily use, so the lock tongue barely catches
- A lock coil slow to move because its mechanism is gummed with detergent
- A connector corroded by steam from the wash
Safe checks before calling for service
- Power the machine down and then back up, and retry.
- Wait until the drum is fully still and the lock releases on its own.
- Never pull or pry a locked door and never bridge the door switch.
- Listen for the lock to click when the door is closed.
- If the door will not open or E dL keeps coming back, call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code E dL
- Ask whether the lock failed to engage or failed to release.
- With power locked out, inspect the lock, strike and door alignment.
- Watch the lock move when it is energized.
- Check the wiring and connector at the lock for corrosion.
- Test the control output that drives the lock.
- Replace the worn lock, strike or wiring, then cycle the door.
- A door that releases late or early is a guard against a spinning drum.
- Freeing a stuck door without damage needs the right release procedure.
- Bypassing the door switch removes the protection against a moving basket.
How error code E dL differs from similar codes
E dL on UC and UW has a 10 second or 5 second timing, whereas the QN version of E dL is a fatal mid-cycle unlock, covered on its own page.

How do I get the clothes out?
Wait for the drum to stop and the lock to release. If it does not, call us and do not pull the door.
What does the alternating door mean?
On the UC display, E dL alternates with door for up to a minute while the control reports the lock problem.
Could the strike be the cause?
Yes. A worn strike can delay the lock, so we check alignment as well as the lock.
