What does UniMac error code E dL1 mean?

E dL1 is the softer relative of E dL. After the door is closed and a cycle is started, the output board tries to lock it and waits to see the lock engage. If the lock does not engage within 60 seconds, the board gives up and shows E dL1. The door never unlocked during a cycle, which is why this is not treated as fatal. The cycle does not begin until the lock engages. A door that is not fully closed or is misaligned with the lock strike is the simplest cause. A lock solenoid or latch that does not engage when commanded is the next, followed by damaged wiring between the output board and the lock. A clean seal and a door that closes with a clear click are the best signs to look for. If the lock does not click at all, that points toward the lock circuit.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to UniMac QN washer-extractors of 20 to 100 lb, such as the UCA020QN, in the CHM1792C family with the front-end control.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

Possible causes

Listed in UniMac's documentation

  • A door not closed fully or misaligned with the lock strike
  • A lock solenoid or latch that does not engage when commanded
  • Damaged wiring between the output board and the door lock

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E dL1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A sleeve or towel caught at the door edge, holding the door slightly open
  • A door seal swollen or covered with lint that stops the door closing flush
  • A solenoid whose spring has weakened so it cannot push the latch home

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Open the door, make sure nothing hangs out, and close it firmly.
  2. Try the start again.
  3. Check that the door seal is clean.
  4. Watch whether the lock clicks.
  5. Never force the door or bypass its switch. If E dL1 returns, call us.

How a technician diagnoses error code E dL1

  1. Ask if the door visibly closes flush and whether the lock clicks.
  2. With power locked out, inspect the strike and latch alignment.
  3. Check the door seal and edge for obstruction.
  4. Watch the solenoid operate when energized.
  5. Test the wiring and connectors between the output board and the lock.
  6. Replace or adjust the failing part, then run a cycle.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The lock wiring shares the output board with live valve and motor circuits.
  • Aligning a latch and strike changes how the guard performs.
  • Telling a weak solenoid from a wiring problem needs a meter and observation under power.

How error code E dL1 differs from similar codes

E dL1 is a lock that never engaged, whereas E dL is a lock that let go mid-cycle and E dL2 is a lock that will not release.
