UniMac Commercial Washer Error Code E LF: Fill Valve Leak

E LF is the water leak fill error on UniMac QN washer-extractors and UC-series machines: the control saw the water level rise more than it should. Close the hot and cold supply valves at the wall if you can reach them safely, power the machine down and call us to check the fill valves.

Medium · inspection needed

High: water entering without a command can flood the room, so the supply should stay closed until the valve is checked.

What does UniMac error code E LF mean?

E LF is the opposite of E Ld. Here the level climbs when the control did not ask for water. That points to a fill valve that does not shut off completely, and a leaking inlet valve can fill the drum by itself. On UC machines this code applies to Design 2 and 3 models only. The control notices the rise at a point where the valves should be closed, and it stops the cycle. Fill valve seats and coils are the first things to check. Debris holding a valve open stops it closing, and the water level sensor and its tubing can mislead the control about what the level is doing. Supply pressure surges at the machine can also push water past a tired valve seat. Because the problem is water entering without a command, the safe move is to shut the supply until it is checked.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to UniMac QN washer-extractors such as the UCA020QN and to UC-series machines such as the UCH020GNF. On UC machines the code applies to Design 2 and 3 models only.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • E LF on the display
  • Water in the drum when no fill was requested
  • Water running into the drum after the cycle ends
  • Hissing or dripping from an inlet valve

Possible causes

Listed in UniMac's documentation

  • Fill valve seats and coils
  • Debris holding a valve open
  • Water level sensor and tubing
  • Supply pressure surges at the machine

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E LF on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A valve diaphragm that has hardened and no longer seals
  • Scale from hard water holding a valve seat slightly open
  • A hose that surges when another machine in the room stops filling

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Close the hot and cold supply valves at the wall if you can reach them safely.
  2. Power the machine down and keep the door closed.
  3. Look for water in the drum or on the floor, and dry any wet floor.
  4. Leave the supply closed.
  5. Call us to check the fill valves.

How a technician diagnoses error code E LF

  1. Ask whether water enters when the machine is idle and which supply is open.
  2. With the water off, remove the inlet screens and inspect the valves for debris and scale.
  3. Test each valve for sealing and its coil for correct operation.
  4. Check supply pressure for surges.
  5. Check the level sensor and tubing against the actual level.
  6. Replace the leaking valve and test the fill level control.
! Leave this to a technician
  • A fill valve that will not close can flood the room, so the supply must stay off.
  • Valve work happens with pressurized water and live coils.
  • Distinguishing a leaking valve from a false level reading needs the actual level checked.

How error code E LF differs from similar codes

E LF is a level that rises too much, whereas E Ld is a level that falls when it should hold steady.

E LFQuestions about UniMac error code E LF
Should I leave the water on?

No. Close the supply valves if you can reach them safely until the valves are checked.

Does E LF apply to every UC washer?

No. On UC machines it applies to Design 2 and 3 models only.

Is hard water involved?

It can be. Scale can keep a valve seat from sealing, and we look for it.
