UniMac Washer Error Code E Ub: Unbalance
E Ub on a UniMac UC-series or UW pocket hardmount washer-extractor means the control could not get the load to settle evenly before spin. Open the door once the drum stops, spread out the linens and restart. If E Ub returns on an even load, the balance switch or machine mounting needs a look.
Low: usually an operator-correctable load issue, and the machine runs again once the load is spread out.
What does UniMac error code E Ub mean?
E Ub is the unbalance error on UniMac UC-series and UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors. Before the drum reaches full spin speed, the control distributes the load and watches for an uneven drum, which a balance switch reports as the cabinet starts to move. If the load will not settle, the control stops the spin instead of letting an off-center drum shake the machine, and the wash may stop short of a full extract. The display then shows E Ub. Heavy single items such as a rug, or tangled linens, are the common cause. When the same code shows on a lightly loaded machine, the balance switch and its wiring, the suspension or mounting, or an unlevel floor become the things to look at. The first step is simply to redistribute the wash.
Affected models and control systems
Listed for UniMac UC-series washer-extractors (CHM495R family, 20-100 lb) and UW/UWL/UWN/UWU 035-125 pocket hardmount washer-extractors (PHM1263R family).
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Machine thumps or shakes as it tries to spin
- Spin stops or slows and E Ub shows
- Wet load after a cycle that did not reach full extract
- Linens wound into one lump on one side of the drum
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Load size and how heavy items were mixed in
- Balance switch and its wiring
- Suspension or mounting condition on the machine
- Machine not level on the floor
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Ub on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- One saturated item, such as a mop head or blanket, riding alone against the drum wall
- A washer that was moved or leveled once and has settled onto one foot
- A balance switch that trips at the slightest movement because its mounting has loosened
Safe checks before calling for service
- Open the door only after the drum stops and the lock releases.
- Spread the load out and pull apart any knots or twisted linens.
- Mix heavy and light items and keep the load within the drum's rated size.
- Close the door and start the cycle again. If E Ub returns on an even load, call us.
- Note the load type and whether the machine rocks before or after the code shows.
How a technician diagnoses error code E Ub
- Read the code and ask what was loaded and how often the code appears.
- Check that the machine is level and the mounting hardware, feet and shock mounts are intact.
- Inspect the balance switch for position, free movement and clean contacts.
- Test the switch and its wiring with a meter and compare it with the wiring diagram.
- Replace the switch or correct the mounting, then spin an even test load to confirm.
- Adjusting the balance switch means working beside a drum and drive that carry 208-240 V and can move unexpectedly.
- Shock mounts and suspension carry heavy loads, and replacing them takes tools and a second person.
- A worn mounting can make a normal load look unbalanced, which is only clear from measurements on the machine.
How error code E Ub differs from similar codes
E Ub is about an uneven load at spin. It is different from the drive codes Ed04 and Ed08, where the motor itself is stalled or drawing too much current.

Related UniMac washer error codes
Is E Ub always a load problem?
Most often yes. If it shows with a light and even load, the balance switch or mounting is the likely cause.
Can I run the spin again?
Yes, after redistributing the load. Stop if the machine shakes hard, because heavy rocking can damage the mounts.
Is it bad to keep restarting the cycle?
Once or twice is fine. If the same code returns on an even load, further tries just strain the machine.
