UniMac Washer Error Code Ed06: Drive Overheating
Ed06 on a UniMac UC-series washer-extractor with a motor drive is a thermal error: the drive reported a high temperature in its power module and stopped the cycle to cool down. Power down, let it cool, and clear any lint and blocked airflow around the machine. If Ed06 returns, call us.
Medium: the drive stops to cool itself and usually recovers, but the cause may repeat.
What does UniMac error code Ed06 mean?
On UniMac UC-series washer-extractors such as the UCH020GNF with the motor drive, Ed06 is a thermal error. The drive contains a power module, called the IPM, that heats up as it drives the motor. The drive reads the IPM temperature, and if it climbs too high, the drive stops the cycle so the module can cool. The display shows Ed06 until the temperature drops and the machine is restarted. You will see it only on Design 2 and 3 machines. Poor air movement around the drive heat sink is the first thing to check, since lint and a hot room both raise the temperature. The manual also lists lint building up near the drive and a drive fan or heat sink that no longer cools.
Affected models and control systems
Listed for UniMac UC-series washer-extractors with a motor drive (CHM495R family, 20-100 lb), such as the UCH020GNF, Design 2 and 3 only.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Ed06 on the display after several cycles in a row
- Cabinet near the drive feels warm
- Code appears more often in the afternoon or hot weather
- Machine runs after a cool-down, then stops again
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Restricted airflow around the drive heat sink
- Lint building up near the drive
- Hot or poorly ventilated laundry room
- Drive fan or heat sink that no longer cools
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed06 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Machine pushed against a wall or other equipment so cooling air has nowhere to go
- A dryer exhaust leaking into the room and raising the air temperature
- A drive fan that has slowed from dust and bearing wear
Safe checks before calling for service
- Power the machine down to let the drive cool.
- Make sure nothing restricts air around the machine and the laundry room is ventilated.
- Keep lint cleared from the outside of the cabinet.
- Power up and retry. If Ed06 returns, call us.
- Note the room temperature and how many cycles ran before the code.
How a technician diagnoses error code Ed06
- Read the code and ask how many back-to-back cycles ran and what the room temperature was.
- Inspect the ventilation openings and the heat sink for lint, dust and blockage with the power locked out.
- Check that the drive's cooling fan runs when the drive is energized.
- Measure supply voltage and motor current to rule out an overload that overheats the drive.
- Clean the heat sink and replace the fan or drive only if it fails the test, then run back-to-back cycles to confirm.
- The heat sink and fan are part of the drive, which holds a charge and carries 208-240 V after the cover is off.
- A drive that overheats from an overloaded motor needs current measurements taken while the machine is running.
- Cleaning a lint-packed heat sink without a lockout risks short circuits across the drive's boards.
How error code Ed06 differs from similar codes
Ed06 is a drive temperature problem. E tE is the wash water being too hot on QN machines, and has nothing to do with the drive.

Related UniMac washer error codes
Will Ed06 go away once the drive cools?
Often yes, but if the airflow is the cause it will return. Cleaning and ventilation are the fix.
Is Ed06 a sign the drive is failing?
Not necessarily. Lint and a hot room are more common causes than a failing drive.
Can I keep running the washer in the afternoon heat?
Give it a rest between loads and keep the room ventilated. If the code repeats, call us.
