Victory Freezer Error Code AL2: Low Temperature 2 Alarm
AL2 on a Victory FS or FSA freezer means the cabinet temperature has fallen below the second low limit. The manual gives the meaning only. If the freezer keeps running too cold, a technician should check the controller settings and probe.
Low: an overcooling warning; stored frozen product is not at risk, though the cause should be checked.

What does Victory error code AL2 mean?
AL2 is the second low temperature alarm in the alarm table for Victory FS and FSA hydrocarbon freezers. The Eliwell-type controller compares the cabinet temperature with set limits. AL2 is displayed when the temperature has fallen below the second low limit. The manual states exactly that and no more: it does not give the limit value, the delay, a list of causes or any operator action. The table lists only the LED state, relay behavior, reset type and the enabling parameters. A freezer that is too cold is less common than one that is too warm, but the control still flags it. The reading may be real, for example the compressor not cycling off, or it may be a misleading reading from a probe that has drifted. The manual does not say which. For a freezer used for frozen goods, an overcold cabinet is rarely dangerous to the food, but it wastes energy, and it can point to a setpoint or probe problem that needs correcting.
Affected models and control systems
AL2 is listed for Victory FS and FSA hydrocarbon freezers using the Eliwell-type controller with probes Pb1 to Pb5, in the alarm table on printed pages 18-19. The second low limit is a parameter, so the temperature at which AL2 appears depends on the unit's setup.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- AL2 on the controller display
- Alarm LED on and possibly an audible alert
- Cabinet temperature reading well below the usual setpoint
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code AL2 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Setpoint or low alarm limit changed so that normal cooling now crosses the limit
- Cabinet probe reading colder than the real air temperature
- Relay or compressor control stuck on, so the freezer keeps cooling
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check the temperature shown against a separate thermometer placed in the cabinet.
- Make sure nothing has changed the setpoint, such as a key pressed during cleaning.
- Listen from the outside for the compressor running continuously without cycling off.
- Do not open panels or adjust parameters.
- Write down the temperature shown, the thermometer reading and how long it has been below the usual value.
How a technician diagnoses error code AL2
- Read the alarm and compare the controller temperature with a calibrated thermometer.
- Check the setpoint and low alarm limit parameters against the unit's data.
- Test the cabinet probe for accuracy.
- Check whether the compressor relay cycles off at the setpoint.
- Confirm defrost operation and any heater or evaporator fan behavior.
- Replace the probe or relay only after it fails the test.
- Parameter values for the setpoint and alarm limits are controller programming that needs the unit's data sheet.
- The compressor and relay circuit carry line voltage behind panels.
- A freezer using a flammable hydrocarbon refrigerant should be worked on only by trained technicians.
How error code AL2 differs from similar codes
AL2 is the second low limit and sits below a first low limit alarm listed separately in the same table.

Can I keep using the freezer with AL2 on?
Usually yes for food safety, because it is too cold rather than warm. Have the control checked so it does not waste energy or freeze the wrong items.
Will AL2 clear itself?
It may once the temperature rises above the limit. If the setpoint or probe is wrong it will return.
Is AL2 caused by a power problem?
The manual does not say so. Power loss is a separate matter and is not what this alarm reports.
