Victory Commercial Refrigerator Error Code rSF: Refrigerant Leak Alarm
RSF is the refrigerant leak alarm on Victory reach-ins with the VCC controller. The control shuts off the compressor and fans, so the cabinet will warm up. Move perishable food to another cooler, keep ignition sources away, and call a technician.
High: the machine is switched off and the alarm points to a possible refrigerant leak.

What does Victory error code RSF mean?
When the VCC controller raises the rSF alarm, it treats the situation as a possible refrigerant loss and switches off all actuators. That means the compressor and the fans stop, so no further cooling takes place. The control does this to avoid running the refrigeration system while charge may be escaping. The alarm then stays on until someone resets it by hand. The display shows rSF. Because the cabinet is switched off, temperature in the box rises steadily, and food needs attention quickly. Victory cabinets use a hydrocarbon refrigerant, which is flammable, so the area around the unit matters as well as the food. This is not a message that clears after waiting, and resetting it without finding the cause only brings it back.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Victory reach-ins with the VCC controller, such as the RSA-1D-S1-HC and RIS-1D-S1-HC, per the RS/RSA manual alarm table. These cabinets use hydrocarbon refrigerant.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- RSF on the display
- Fans and compressor both silent
- Box temperature climbing
- Faint odor near the cabinet in some leak cases
Possible causes
Listed in Victory's documentation
- A refrigerant leak in the sealed system
- A control that has sensed a low charge
- Pressure or temperature readings that triggered the alarm
- Wiring to the sensors
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code RSF on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Slow leak at an evaporator joint after years of vibration
- Damaged tubing near the condensing unit from a bump during cleaning
- Sensor wiring chafed against a bracket so the leak alarm trips falsely
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check how warm the food has become, because the cabinet is switched off.
- Move perishable food to another cooler.
- Keep open flame, sparks and switches away from the cabinet.
- Do not open panels or add refrigerant.
- Tell us the time rSF appeared and whether anyone noticed an odor.
How a technician diagnoses error code RSF
- Read the alarm and ask when it first appeared.
- Use a leak detector rated for hydrocarbon refrigerant around joints and coils.
- Check the sensor circuit and wiring that raised the alarm.
- Repair any leak and pressure-test the system.
- Evacuate and recharge by the nameplate quantity.
- Reset the alarm and run a full cycle.
- Hydrocarbon refrigerant is flammable, and leak work must be done by a technician with the right detector and procedures.
- Adding refrigerant without finding the leak breaks safety rules and does not fix the cabinet.
- The sensor and control wiring is live and sits behind panels.
How error code RSF differs from similar codes
RSF stops the whole system and latches, unlike HI, LO or rE on the same controller, which leave the cabinet running.

Can I reset rSF and keep going?
A reset is possible, but it does not remove a leak. Wait until a technician has checked the sealed system.
Is the cabinet dangerous?
Hydrocarbon refrigerant is flammable, so keep ignition sources away and let a technician handle it.
How long until the food spoils?
That depends on load and room temperature, so use a thermometer and your food-safety rules.
