Victory Commercial Refrigerator Error Code HA / HF: HACCP Warm-Event Alarm

HA and HF are HACCP alarms on Victory reach-ins with the VCC controller. HA means the cabinet got too warm while running, and HF means it got too warm after a power loss. Check the food with a thermometer first, then reset the alarm by hand once the event is recorded.

Medium · inspection needed

High: it records possible food exposure to heat and stays on until a person responds.

What does Victory error code HA / HF mean?

HACCP alarms exist to leave a record, so the VCC controller does not quietly clear them. While the cabinet is running, the control compares box temperature with its alarm limit. If the air stays above that limit for the allowed time, it latches HA. If power was lost and the box was warm when power came back, it latches HF instead. After either one, the controller keeps showing the alarm even though the cabinet may now be cooling normally. That is intentional: it tells the next person that food may have been exposed to heat. The alarm only goes away when someone resets it by hand. The display text is HA / HF. Because the alarm describes something that already happened, a normal-looking cabinet temperature does not mean the event never occurred, and the reset should wait until the food has been judged.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Victory reach-in refrigerators using the VCC controller, such as the RSA-1D-S1-HC and RIS-1D-S1-HC, as described in the RS/RSA manual alarm table.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • HA or HF showing on the display
  • Cabinet cold again but the alarm still on
  • Food at the front feeling warmer than normal
  • Recent power outage or a door left open

Possible causes

Listed in Victory's documentation

  • Cooling problem during operation
  • Power outage that let the cabinet warm
  • Door left open for a long time
  • Dirty condenser or fan problem

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code HA / HF on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Heavy restocking with warm product that pushed the box air over the alarm limit
  • Condenser coil matted with grease and lint in a busy line kitchen, so head pressure climbs in afternoon heat
  • Evaporator fan not moving air at the back of the box, leaving warm pockets near the probe

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Do not clear the alarm yet.
  2. Probe several items, including ones at the front and top, with a clean thermometer.
  3. Apply your food-safety rules to anything that was warm, and write down the time and temperatures.
  4. Reset the alarm by hand once the event is recorded.
  5. Note whether the display said HA or HF and whether there was a power loss or open door beforehand.

How a technician diagnoses error code HA / HF

  1. Read the alarm and confirm whether it is HA or HF, and ask about outages and door habits.
  2. Measure actual box air temperature against the controller reading.
  3. Inspect the condenser and fan for airflow and clean as needed.
  4. Check evaporator fan operation and look for frost buildup.
  5. Watch a full cooling cycle to confirm the box holds temperature.
  6. Reset the alarm and confirm it stays clear.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The condenser and evaporator fans run on live line-voltage wiring behind panels that only a technician should open.
  • A repeat HA can point to the sealed refrigeration system, which requires certified refrigerant handling.
  • The alarm records an event, so finding what caused the warm period takes measurements across a full cycle.

How error code HA / HF differs from similar codes

HA and HF both latch until reset, but HA is an in-operation event and HF follows a power loss. This is not the same as HI or LO on the same controller, which clear on their own.

HA / HFQuestions about Victory error code HA / HF
What is the difference between HA and HF?

HA means the box got too warm while the cabinet was running. HF means it was warm when power returned after an outage.

Will the alarm clear on its own?

No. It stays on until someone resets it by hand, so a warm event cannot go unnoticed.

Is it safe to reset it right away?

Reset only after the food has been probed and the event written down. Resetting first erases the only built-in record that something happened.
