Repairs this series usually needs

  1. Service light after four minutes
  2. High limit light on
  3. Generator scale
  4. Heavy steam from the back of the unit
  5. Gas ignition problems

The earlier HyPerSteam units are the HY-5G, HY-6E and HY-6G. They share the generator design of the current line, but they are older and often well worn. The data plate gives the model.

On these steamers the same few things come up again and again: water that is not reaching the generator, a screen clogged with debris, and scale that trips the high limit. We check those first, then the door seal and the exhaust path, since steam pouring out the back can mean a problem there. Gas models get ignition and burner testing, and gas in the air sends everyone outside to phone the gas company.

Older units like these are regular work for us, and we are frank when a repair would not pay.

FAQOlder Groen HyPerSteam HY-5G, HY-6E and HY-6G Steamers questions
Are HY-6E steamers still serviceable?

Yes. We repair the HY-5G, HY-6E and HY-6G, confirm the parts before the visit, and write the price down first. A 30-day workmanship warranty covers our work.

Why is steam coming out of the back?

It can point to the exhaust path or to a door seal problem. Switch the unit off, let it cool and the steam release, and then call us so we can look at the exhaust and the gasket.

Is my HY-5G gas or electric?

The G in HY-5G stands for gas. The data plate confirms it, and we use that full number to match parts. The HY-6E carries an E, which marks the electric version.
