Victory Freezer Error Code EL: LINK2 Probe Failure
EL on a Victory FS or FSA freezer means the controller cannot read the probe on its LINK2 input. The manual gives the meaning only, with no causes or actions. A technician should check that probe and its wiring.
Medium: the freezer may continue to run, but a missing probe reading reduces control over temperature.

What does Victory error code EL mean?
EL is the LINK2 probe failure alarm in the alarm table of the Victory FS and FSA hydrocarbon freezer manual. The Eliwell-type controller reads several temperature probes, labeled Pb1 through Pb5. One of its inputs is called LINK2, and when the controller does not receive a usable reading from the probe on that input it raises EL. The manual's table states the meaning as: the probe on the LINK2 input is not read by the controller. For this code the table gives only the alarm LED state, the relay behavior, the type of reset and the parameters that enable it. It does not list causes and it does not tell the operator what to do. So the page can say what the control reports, not why. An unreadable probe could mean a probe that is disconnected, open or shorted, but the manual does not say that, so a technician has to confirm it with a meter. Whatever the cause, the controller loses that temperature reading, and the freezer may have to rely on other probes.
Affected models and control systems
This code is listed for Victory FS and FSA hydrocarbon freezers, which use an Eliwell-type controller with probes Pb1 to Pb5. The alarm table is on printed pages 18-19. VUR refrigerators and CBF freezers from the same maker use Danfoss controllers with a different code set.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EL on the controller display
- Alarm LED lit on the controller
- One of the freezer's temperature readings missing or wrong
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Probe on the LINK2 input unplugged or its connector loose
- Probe wire pinched or cut where it passes through the cabinet wall
- Probe sensing element failed, giving no usable signal
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that the freezer door closes and that nothing is blocking air inside, since EL is not a door alarm.
- If the controller allows an alarm to be silenced by key, do so only as the user manual describes.
- Do not unplug probes or open the electrical compartment.
- Check whether the cabinet temperature on the display still looks sensible.
- Note the exact text shown, whether the alarm LED is on, and the cabinet temperature, and tell the technician. The manual gives no operator action for EL.
How a technician diagnoses error code EL
- Read the active alarm and confirm EL, noting the other probe readings.
- Identify which probe is wired to LINK2 on this unit's wiring diagram.
- Check continuity and resistance of that probe against its temperature chart.
- Inspect the connector and cable run for damage.
- Check the probe configuration parameters that enable the LINK2 input.
- Replace the probe only if the test shows it is open, shorted or out of range.
- Probe testing needs the controller's wiring diagram and a meter used on a unit that carries mains voltage nearby.
- This hydrocarbon freezer uses a flammable refrigerant, so work near the sealed circuit needs trained handling.
- Controller parameters that enable the LINK2 input are set by service access and should not be changed without the unit's data.

We use the maker's document to read the code and do not reproduce it. Always confirm the complete model and control before applying these steps.

Can I keep using the freezer with EL showing?
It may still run on the other probes, but check product temperature often. The manual does not say how the control behaves with this probe missing.
Will EL go away by itself?
The manual gives the reset type only in a table that we do not repeat here. If the probe is the problem, it will not clear until the probe is repaired.
Is EL the same as the Pr1 probe codes on other controllers?
Not exactly. EL refers to the LINK2 input on this Eliwell-type controller, while other makers label probe errors differently.
