Victory Freezer Error Code HPA: Pressure Switch Alarm
HPA on a Victory FS or FSA freezer is a pressure switch alarm that the manual prints as low pressure. That label looks swapped with LPA. Check airflow around the freezer and ask a technician to read the actual pressures.
High: a tripped pressure switch can stop the compressor, and the manual's labels do not show which side is involved.

What does Victory error code HPA mean?
HPA is listed in the Victory FS and FSA alarm table as a low pressure switch alarm, as printed. The controller shows it when a pressure switch alarm is active. The manual says only that the pressure switch alarm is active and notes the label low pressure. The letters H and P suggest high pressure, yet the manual says low, and it has the opposite for LPA. So the table appears to have the two labels reversed, and the manual's own wording should not be used to decide which side of the system is involved. No causes, limits or operator actions are given; only the LED, relay, reset type and enabling parameters are listed. If you see HPA, the one safe conclusion is that a pressure switch has tripped. Whether suction or discharge pressure was out of range is found by connecting gauges, not by reading the code letters.
Affected models and control systems
HPA is listed for Victory FS and FSA hydrocarbon freezers with an Eliwell-type controller and probes Pb1 to Pb5, in the alarm table on printed pages 18-19. Because the manual's labels look swapped, the unit's wiring and parameters are the reliable guide.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- HPA on the controller display
- Alarm LED on
- Compressor off, or the freezer warming slowly
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code HPA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Low suction pressure from a restricted line or low refrigerant charge
- High discharge pressure from a blocked condenser or stopped fan
- Pressure switch set point or wiring out of order
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that the front of the freezer has air space and the grille is clear.
- Make sure the door is closed and the cabinet is not iced over inside.
- Do not open panels, touch the lines or reset a switch.
- Note whether the compressor is running and the cabinet temperature.
- Write down which pressure codes are shown. Do not rely on the high or low label for HPA; tell the technician.
How a technician diagnoses error code HPA
- Read the alarm and note the related pressure codes.
- Connect gauges and record suction and discharge pressure at the time of the alarm.
- Test the switch at its trip point.
- Check evaporator frost, airflow and refrigerant condition for a low-side cause.
- Check the condenser and fan for a high-side cause.
- Repair the pressure cause before resetting the controller.
- Gauge work on a flammable hydrocarbon refrigerant circuit is for trained technicians.
- The switch and compressor circuits are at line voltage.
- A mislabeled alarm in the manual means the real trip side must be proven with readings.
How error code HPA differs from similar codes
HPA is printed as low pressure where its letters imply high, and LPA is the reverse. Treat both as pressure switch alarms until gauge readings say otherwise.

Does HPA mean high pressure?
The manual prints it as low pressure, which conflicts with the letters. Gauge readings decide.
Is it okay to keep the freezer running?
Only if it is cooling. If the compressor is stopped, protect the food.
What if HPA and LPA both appear?
Report both; they are the two pressure switch entries and the order helps the technician.
