Victory Freezer Error Code PA: General Pressure Switch Alarm

PA on a Victory FS or FSA freezer is the general pressure switch alarm: a pressure switch input has tripped. The manual gives no cause or action. Keep the area around the freezer clear and have a technician check the pressures.

Medium · inspection needed

High: a pressure switch trip can stop cooling and the manual gives no stop point.

What does Victory error code PA mean?

PA is the second general pressure switch alarm in the Victory FS and FSA alarm table; the first is nPA. Both carry the same text in the manual: a pressure switch input has tripped. The Eliwell-type controller reads the switch contact, and when it changes state beyond what the setup expects, PA appears. The table adds the LED state, relay behavior, reset type and enabling parameters, and nothing about causes or operator action. Because the entry says general, it does not identify high or low pressure. One difference between the two is simply the code letters, which may correspond to different parameter settings on different units. A freezer that stops on a pressure trip does not cool, and the refrigerant in this model is flammable, so a technician has to read the actual pressures before the unit is reset and restarted.

Affected models and control systems

PA is listed for Victory FS and FSA hydrocarbon freezers with an Eliwell-type controller and probes Pb1 to Pb5, in the alarm table on printed pages 18-19, alongside nPA, LPA and HPA.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • PA on the controller display
  • Alarm LED on
  • Compressor silent while the cabinet warms

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code PA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Pressure switch opened because the circuit pressure moved out of range
  • Dirty condenser restricting heat rejection
  • Loose wire or connector on the pressure input

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check that the grille and sides of the freezer are clear of boxes.
  2. Look at the compressor area from outside to see whether it is quiet.
  3. Do not open panels or press any reset on the switch.
  4. Check the door and cabinet temperature so food can be moved if the freezer is warming.
  5. Tell the technician the time PA appeared and whether nPA was also shown.

How a technician diagnoses error code PA

  1. Read the alarm and history, noting related pressure alarms.
  2. Read suction and discharge pressure with gauges.
  3. Check pressure switch continuity at the trip point.
  4. Check condenser, fan and evaporator airflow.
  5. Check wiring and the input parameter.
  6. Find the pressure cause before clearing the alarm.
! Leave this to a technician
  • A hydrocarbon refrigerant circuit should only be opened to gauges by trained technicians.
  • Resetting a switch that tripped for a real pressure problem can damage the compressor.
  • The switch and compressor wiring carry line voltage.

How error code PA differs from similar codes

PA and nPA share the same manual description; seeing one rather than the other does not change the first steps.

PAQuestions about Victory error code PA
Is PA the same as nPA?

The manual describes both as a pressure switch input that tripped. Treat them the same way.

Can I restart the freezer?

Let a technician read the pressures first, since a real pressure trip can damage the compressor.

Will PA go away on its own?

It may, if the trip was brief, but the pressure cause should still be checked.
