Manitowoc Ice Machine Service Alert E01 and E02: Long Freeze, Long Harvest
E01 is a long freeze cycle and E02 is a long harvest cycle, stored as service alerts. Press the power button to restart. If the machine runs, it corrected itself; if it stops again, call for service.
Medium: stored alerts warn of cycle problems, and the machine stops only after repeats.

What does Manitowoc Service Alert E01 / E02 mean?
The Indigo NXT control times each freeze and harvest cycle and stores an alert when one runs too long. E01 is a long freeze: when a freeze cycle reaches 35 minutes, the control forces a harvest, and after 6 long freezes in a row the machine stops. E02 is a long harvest: when a harvest cycle reaches 7 minutes, the machine goes back to freeze, and after 3 in a row it stops. The manual's action is to press the power button, so the display reads Off and then Making Ice, and see what happens. If the machine runs, the problem corrected itself. If it stops again, call for service. The manual says that these alerts point to conditions that could lead to a major part failure, and it refers to Section 5 for the detail on E01 and E02. The alerts are a warning about patterns, not a single event.
Affected models and control systems
Manitowoc Indigo NXT ice machines: air-cooled, water-cooled, remote and QuietQube models. Earlier Indigo and other Manitowoc series use different alert text.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Service alert E01 or E02 stored
- Ice slab small or thin, or harvest taking long
- Machine stopped after repeated long cycles
Possible causes
Listed in Manitowoc's documentation
- Conditions that could lead to a major part failure (manual refers to Section 5 for E01/E02 detail)
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Service Alert E01 / E02 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Water supply restricted so freeze runs long
- Scale on the evaporator slowing release at harvest
- Condenser airflow blocked in a hot room
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the power button; the display reads Off, then Making Ice.
- Watch whether the machine starts a freeze cycle normally.
- Check that the water supply is on and the air around the machine is clear.
- If it stops again, note the alert and call for service.
How a technician diagnoses Service Alert E01 / E02
- Read the stored alerts and the cycle history.
- Check water supply, pressure and the water level probe.
- Inspect the evaporator for scale and the harvest for release.
- Check the condenser or the water-cooled supply.
- Test the sealed system pressures against the manual.
- Freeze and harvest depend on the sealed refrigeration system, which needs a certified technician.
- Pressure readings and valve checks are made on live equipment.
- Repeated long cycles can damage the compressor.
How Service Alert E01 / E02 differs from similar codes
E01 and E02 are stored service alerts. The Safe Mode alert and service limits are separate.

Does E01 stop the machine at once?
No. It forces a harvest at 35 minutes and stops only after 6 in a row.
What about E02?
At 7 minutes the machine goes back to freeze, and 3 in a row stop it.
Is restarting enough?
If the machine runs normally afterward, the cause cleared. If not, call.
