Victory Refrigerator Error Code E1-E5: Probe Failure
On the Victory FS, RFS and DRS family, E1 through E5 mean probes Pb1 to Pb5 have failed, either shorted or open. Write down the code exactly and call for service, because the number tells us which probe to bring.
Medium: a lost probe leaves the control without a reading, which can affect cooling or defrost.

What does Victory error code E1 / E2 / E3 / E4 / E5 mean?
The controller on the Victory FS, RFS and DRS family, such as the FSA-1D-S1-HC and RFSA-2D-S1-HC, reads up to five probes, Pb1 to Pb5. The display shows E1 / E2 / E3 / E4 / E5 when it loses one: E1 is Pb1, E2 is Pb2, and so on. The controller checks that each probe reads inside a sensible range. A probe that is shorted reads far too low, and one that is open reads far too high or not at all, and the controller flags either as a failure. A probe loss leaves the control without a reading, and temperature or defrost control can suffer depending on the probe's role. Cabinet air probes govern how the compressor cycles, while coil probes decide how defrost ends. The manual lists a loose plug on the probe named by the E code, a shorted or open wire between that Pb probe and the control, a failed probe input on the control board, and moisture or ice that has damaged the probe lead in the cabinet. Tell us the number so we can bring the right probe.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the Victory FS, RFS and DRS family, such as the FSA-1D-S1-HC and RFSA-2D-S1-HC, with probes Pb1 to Pb5.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E1 to E5 on the display
- Cabinet temperature drifting up or down
- Defrost that behaves differently or does not end properly
- Frost building on the evaporator
Possible causes
Listed in Victory's documentation
- A loose plug on the Victory FS probe named by the E code
- A shorted or open wire between that Pb probe and the control
- A failed probe input on the Victory FS control board
- Moisture or ice that has damaged the probe lead in the cabinet
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E1 / E2 / E3 / E4 / E5 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A probe lead pinched where the door or shelf support presses on it
- A coil probe whose tip is damaged by ice when defrost does not clear it
- A probe that was moved or replaced during cleaning and plugged into the wrong socket
Safe checks before calling for service
- Write down the code exactly as shown.
- Take the temperature of the food at the start and end of each shift.
- Keep the doors closed as much as possible.
- Photograph the display, tell us the model number and note how long the code has been on. Keep the doors shut until we arrive.
How a technician diagnoses error code E1 / E2 / E3 / E4 / E5
- Read the code and identify which probe it names, Pb1 to Pb5.
- Check the probe plug and trace the lead for pinching, ice or damage.
- Measure the probe resistance against a reference at a known temperature.
- Check the control probe input with a known good probe.
- Replace the probe or control only once the test fails.
- Probe wiring ends at a control that sits near mains-powered parts.
- Reading a probe against its resistance table needs a meter and a temperature reference.
- A wrong or loose probe can make the cabinet run too cold or too warm without a clear sign.

Which probe is E3?
E3 means probe Pb3. The number matches the probe.
Is the cabinet still cooling?
Possibly, but check with a thermometer, since the control may be missing a reading it needs.
Can I swap probes myself?
No. Each probe has a job, and swapping can change how the cabinet cools.
