Victory Freezer Error Code HiP: High Voltage Alarm
HiP on a Victory FS or FSA freezer means the supply voltage is above the allowed limit. Unplug it only if you see signs of damage. Have an electrician or technician measure the supply at the outlet.
Medium: the freezer may keep running, but an over-voltage supply can damage its motors and electronics.

What does Victory error code HiP mean?
HiP is the high voltage alarm in the Victory FS and FSA alarm table. The Eliwell-type controller measures its own supply voltage. If the voltage rises above the limit the controller accepts, it shows HiP so the operator knows the electrical supply, not the freezer's refrigeration system, is out of range. The manual says only that the supply voltage is above the allowed limit. It does not state the limit, the delay, a cause or an action; the table lists the LED, relay, reset type and enabling parameters. High supply voltage is hard on a freezer because motors and the compressor run hotter and electronics can be stressed. The reading might reflect a real utility problem, a wrong tap on a transformer, or a building supply that does not match the freezer's rating. The controller cannot say which.
Affected models and control systems
HiP is listed for Victory FS and FSA hydrocarbon freezers with an Eliwell-type controller and probes Pb1 to Pb5, in the alarm table on printed pages 18-19. The voltage limit it uses is a controller parameter, so the exact trigger level depends on the unit's setup.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- HiP on the controller display
- Alarm LED on
- Lights or other equipment on the same supply behaving oddly
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code HiP on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Utility or building supply running above its nominal level
- Freezer connected to the wrong voltage for its rating
- Voltage alarm limit set too close to the normal supply level
Safe checks before calling for service
- Look for other equipment on the same circuit that behaves oddly or buzzes.
- Check that the freezer is on a circuit of the voltage printed on its data plate.
- If the plug or outlet is hot, discolored or smells burned, unplug the freezer and stop.
- Do not open panels or take readings with a meter yourself.
- Write down when HiP appeared and whether it happens at a certain time of day, for the technician.
How a technician diagnoses error code HiP
- Read the alarm and history and note when it occurs.
- Measure supply voltage at the outlet and at the unit's terminals, with the freezer idle and running.
- Compare with the data plate rating.
- Check the voltage alarm limit parameters against the unit's data.
- Have the supply corrected by an electrician if the voltage is truly high.
- Measuring supply voltage means working on live 115 V or 208-230 V circuits.
- Over-voltage can damage the compressor and controller, so the supply must be corrected before the freezer is trusted.
- Changing the alarm limit parameters without the unit's data can hide a real supply problem.
How error code HiP differs from similar codes
HiP is the high voltage twin of LoP in the same table; HiP is for a supply above the limit, LoP for a supply below it.

Can I keep the freezer running with HiP showing?
It is wiser to have the supply checked soon. High voltage can shorten motor and electronics life.
Will HiP clear when the voltage returns to normal?
The manual lists the reset type in its table. A short surge may clear, but a steadily high supply will not.
Is HiP a freezer failure?
Not by itself. It reports the electrical supply, so the freezer may be fine.
